Employment Insurance Fraud & Counterfeiting in Cornwall Ontario DEC 9, 2016

Cornwall, ON – Hudson Cochrane, age 27, of Brinston, Ontario was arrested on December 9, 2016. As a result of information received from the public he was located by police in the area of Sydney Street and Third Street having operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. An investigation was conducted. He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a quantity of counterfeit Canadian twenty dollar bills. He was charged with Impaired, Over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 mls of blood, and Possession of Counterfeit Money. He was held for a Bail Hearing.

FRAUD AND IDENTITY THEFT

Cornwall, ON – A 53 year old man and a 40 year old woman were arrested on December 8, 2016. It is alleged that between November 2014 and August 2015 they used a family member’s identity to receive Employment Insurance benefits from the Government of Canada. Police were contacted and an investigation was conducted. The man was charged with Identity Theft and 20 counts of Fraud Under $5000. The woman was charged with Identity Theft and 13 counts of Fraud Under $5000. Both were released to appear in court on January 12, 2017. Their names are not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
