More Delays to Brookdale Opening as Streetlights Delayed in Cornwall DEC 16, 2016

Cornwall Ontario – The City of Cornwall, Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd. and L.W. Bray Construction Ltd. would like to advise the public that the reopening of Brookdale Avenue will be postponed due to delays in receiving street light poles from the manufacturer.

The City, including the Cornwall Community Police Service, have concerns regarding motorist and pedestrian safety on Brookdale Avenue during nighttime conditions due to streetlights not being installed.

Reopening Brookdale Avenue will result in changes to traffic patterns and driver behaviour adaptation at a time of year when there are more hours of darkness than daylight and when volumes are higher with the lead up to the holiday season. The area near the traffic circle is a particular concern.

We are disappointed with the situation and regret that the poles are delayed. Although frustrating, it is in the interest of public safety to wait a few additional days to reopen Brookdale Avenue.

It is hoped the roadway will be reopened later next week. We wish to thank all motorists for their continued patience and cooperation while this work is carried out.
