Hawkesbury OPP Two Vehicle Collision Leaves MARILIE PICARD Deceased MARCH 2, 2017

(Champlain, ON) – On Wednesday March 1st 2017, at approximately 3:42 pm, Hawkesbury OPP Constables Fortin-Provost and Lemay responded to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on County Road 17, approximately two kilometers west of the Town of Hawkesbury.

The investigation reveals that for unknown reasons, a passenger van, travelling westbound on County Road 17 collided with an eastbound cube truck.

The 22 year old female driver of the passenger van did not survive the injuries sustained in the collision. She was found deceased at the scene.

Passengers of the said van, two young children including an adult male, as well as the driver of the cube truck, were all transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Prescott-Russell Emergency Services (paramedics) and the Champlain Fire Department assisted officers at the scene. The investigators are being assisted by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

County Road 17, between Highway 34 and County Road 4, will be closed to traffic for a few hours into the evening. Detours have been set up. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

Marilie PICARD (22 yrs) of Gatineau, QC, the female driver of the passenger van, did not survive the injuries sustained in the collision. She was found deceased at the scene.

County Road 17 was closed between Highway 34 and County Road 4 for approximately 7 hours.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A post mortem is scheduled to take place in Ottawa on March 2nd, 2017.
