SNOW ALERT – Another 20cm + for Cornwall Ontario MARCH 14, 2017

Cornwall Ontario – 30 vehicle pile ups on the 401.  Wet icy snow, and March break have led to a treacherous Tuesday.  Overnight and into Wednesday the snow and cold will continue with as much as 25cm more snow expected in some areas.


In Kingston it got scary as the hazmat team had to come out after one of the vehicles in the mass collision leaked chemicals that sent several to hospital.

Temperatures will hover around the -10c mark into tomorrow when it will gradually warm up towards the weekend.

Another blast of snow is expected to start Saturday.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Major winter storm continuing tonight.

An intense East Coast storm will track up the Eastern Seaboard tonight. Snow, heavy at times, and frequent blowing snow has settled in across much of Eastern Ontario. It will continue throughout the night. A widespread 15 to 25 centimetre snowfall is expected. Total snowfall amounts reaching 30 centimetres are likely, especially near the St. Lawrence River.

Strong and gusty northeasterly winds will whip up the freshly fallen snow resulting in frequent blowing snow in most areas.

This winter storm will result in dangerous winter travelling conditions with very low to at times nil visibility possible in heavy snow and blowing snow in many areas. Travel is not recommended.

The winter storm will come to an end later on Wednesday as the snow begins to taper off and the low pressure area moves away.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
