Légion d’honneur Available to Canadian Veterans of the Second World War MARCH 18, 2017

Cornwall Ontario –  Our coverage of the Arthur Murray Legion scandal here in Cornwall has had many positive ripples.   One of which was a Mr. Guy Black from Port Moody BC who sent in the following to CFN to assist our Veterans who helped Liberate France in 1944.

Mr. Black has been a champion of our troops and he himself was awarded the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation and Sovereigns Medal for Volunteers.

After reading our coverage he sent in the following:

Since 2014 the government of France has been awarding their highest medal, the Legion of Honour to Canadian veterans that participated in the liberation of France in 1944.

Many veterans have now received this great honour but many veterans may not even know it’s available. The Legion of Honour is a very significant official medal that is equal to the Order of Canada. Living Canadian Veterans who saw service in France or directly supported the liberation campaign between June 6, 1944 and August 30, 1944 may be eligible.

There is no cost or fee involved. If you would like to apply there is a one page application form on the website of Veterans Affairs Canada or you can contact me for help. For more information or assistance with your application please contact Guy Black, email korea19501953@yahoo.com and use the subject, Canadian Veteran or send me a letter addressed to Legion of Honour C/O 515 – 95 Moody Street, Port Moody, BC V3H 0H2.

Since you’re here …

… we’ve got a small favour to ask. More people are reading the Cornwall Free News than ever, but far fewer are paying for it.

Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike some other news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism open to all. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. CFN’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure.  Please click the donate button below.
