Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 443 calls for service from May 19 to May 22, 2017. Of these, 300 calls occurred in the city central area, 84 in the west end, 17 in the east end, and 12 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 5 shoplifting calls
  • 2 theft of vehicle calls
  • 6 mischief calls
  • 6 fraud calls
  • 7 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 6 parking/vehicle complaints

There were 20 individuals arrested from May 19 to 22, 2017, including 18 men and 2 women, between 18 and 44 years of age, for the following: theft under $5000, assault, possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, attempt murder, utter threats to cause harm, theft over $5000, possession of stolen property over $5000, utter threats to cause death, possession of a controlled drug, unlawfully in a dwelling-house, robbery, resist arrest, mischief under $5000, breach probation, breach undertaking, and breach recognizance.

Man Caught After Stealing Car from Dealership

An 18-year-old Bancroft man was caught driving around town after stealing a vehicle from a local dealership.

On May 18, 2017 the accused attended a car dealership on Princess Street. The accused took a vehicle for a test drive and failed to return.

On May 21, 2017 at approximately 8:00 p.m. police responded to report that the stolen vehicle was at Montreal Street and Sutherland Drive. The vehicle had been spotted by a staff member from the dealership. Officers responded and located the vehicle parked on Montreal Street. Officers apprehended the accused as he exited a nearby residential building.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

The accused was charged with theft over $5000, and possession of stolen property over $5000.

Florida Man Charged with Attempt Murder

A 34-year-old Florida man is facing attempt murder charges after attacking his girlfriend while visiting an acquaintance in Kingston.

The accused, the victim (from Pennsylvania), and a woman (from New York) were staying with a Kingston man at his west end residence. All four had had met online through a gaming site.

The accused and the victim had been arguing for two days and on May 22, 2017 the Kingston man asked the accused take a walk to calm down. The Kingston man was planning to take the two women to a hotel to get away from the accused. Before they could leave, the accused returned and grabbed a shovel and the Kingston man grabbed a bat. The accused dropped the shovel and forced his way into the home. The accused attacked the victim and began choking her. The Kingston man and the New York woman tried to stop the attack but were unable to, due to the size of the accused. Fearing for the victim’s life the Kingston man grabbed the bat and struck the accused several times until he ended his attack on the victim.

Police responded and ambulance was called due to injuries suffered by the accused. The accused was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Once cleared medically the accused was transported to police headquarters and held to attend a bail hearing. The accused was charged with assault, possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, and attempt murder.

Man Arrested after Returning to House he Walked Into

A 40-year-old Amherstview man was arrested after unlawfully entering a house and then returning when police attended.

On May 21, 2017 at approximately 3:15 p.m. the complainant returned home after walking his dog when the accused suddenly opened his door and walked into the residence. The complainant pushed the accused outside, locked the door and called police.

While officers were at the residence and investigating, the accused returned and was arrested without incident. During a search of the accused offices found a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.The accused was charged with unlawfully in a dwelling-house, possession of a controlled drug, and breach recognizance.

Man Wields Cricket Bat and Chases Victims through the Woods

A 33-year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested after chasing victims through the woods while wielding a cricket bat.

On May 21, 2017 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the victims were walking through a wooded area adjacent to the K&P trail entrance off Montreal Street and Rideau Street. As the pair walked past a makeshift campsite the accused emerged and threatened to kill them. The accused then chased the victims with a wooden cricket bat. Once the victims managed to get away from the accused, they called police.

Officers located the accused at the campsite and found a small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, utter threats to cause death, and possession of a controlled drug.

Massage Therapist Charged with Sexual Assault

A 26-year-old local man has been charged with sexual assault after a complaint in regards to a massage therapy session.

On May 17, 2017 the victim attended her scheduled massage therapy session. During the massage, the therapist made inappropriate sexual contact with the victim. Detectives investigated and formed grounds to arrest the accused.

On May 23, 2017 the accused turned himself in at police headquarters. The accused was later released with a future court date. The accused was charged with sexual assault.

Police Asking for Information Regarding Graffiti

Police are investigating spray painting incidents on Stephen Street that occurred overnight from May 5 to 6, 2017. Several homes, signs and a vehicle were spray-painted in orange, yellow, white and blue paint with various expressions including “OT”, “OTF” and “666”

One Man Arrested for Robbery, Police Looking for Second Man

An 18-year-old local man was arrested after participating in robbery and then resisting arrest. Detectives are looking for the second man.

On May 21, 2017 at approximately 12: 30 a.m. the victim and his girlfriend were in the area of Sir John A MacDonald Boulevard and Johnson Street. The victim and his girlfriend were approached by two men, one with no shirt on. A confrontation erupted into violence when the man with a shirt, pulled out a BB gun and fired several shots at the victim’s face. The two men then punched the victim several times, until he fell. When the victim fell he dropped a bag he was carrying for his girlfriend. The man with the shirt on grabbed the bag and took off running. The man with no shirt then left and police were called.

While officers were talking with the victim the man with no shirt was seen returning. The man was yelling and screaming to fight until he got closer and realized police were present. The man took off running and officers chased him on foot as he hurdled several fences. The man was eventually located in a parking lot on Yonge Street with the assistance of the K9 unit. The man resisted arrest and tried kicking officers as he was handcuffed.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. The accused was charged with robbery, and two counts of resist arrest.

The investigation is on-going as Detectives search for the second man described as 18-years-old, tall, thin and last seen wearing khaki’s and a light coloured shirt possibly with black sleeves.

Police Seeking Assistance in Identifying Assault Suspect

On May 9, 2017 at approximately 3:45 p.m. the victim was at a store in the area of Princess Street and Bagot Street. The victim observed the suspect shoplifting from the store. When the suspect observed the victim taking photos of him outside the store, he ran up and punched the victim several times in the head.

The suspect is described as 5’9”, mid 20’s, wearing a black flat brimmed baseball cap, blue jeans, black shoes with white soles, a white and black plaid fleeced style jacket with a black hoodie underneath, black sunglasses with mirrored lenses and a blue/black knapsack with white lines. The suspect was with a second male who was not involved in the assault.

What to Do if You are Contacted by a CRA Fraudster

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scams are extremely common and very active at this time. Kingston Police are receiving numerous complaints regarding CRA scams.

If you have received a fraudulent CRA phone call or email we ask you follow these steps:

  • If you are a victim, you have lost money or provided confidential information, please contact us directly.
