Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 529 calls for service June 9 to June 13, 2017. Of these, 328 calls occurred in the city central area, 116 in the west end, 18 in the east end, and 16 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

There were 31 individuals arrested from June 9 to June 13, 2017 including 25 men and 6 women, between 16 and 57 years of age, for the following: impaired driving, operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol, carry a concealed weapon, theft under $5000, possession of stolen property, assault, cause disturbance, break and enter, assault police with a weapon, assault police, resist arrest, mischief under $5000, harassment, forcible confinement, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking, unlawful possession of a controlled drug, drive while disqualified, public intoxication, breach undertaking, breach recognizance, and breach of probation. Six persons were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Driver Forced to a Stop by Police, Had 3 Times Legal Limit of Alcohol

A 56-year-old local man was found to have approximately 3 times the legal limit of alcohol after the officer had to force his vehicle to a stop.

On June 13, 2017 at approximately 2:30 a.m. a patrol officer observed the accused driving behind him in an erratic manner on Bath Road. Once the officer was in position behind the vehicle he activated emergency lights and then siren and then pulled alongside, however the accused continued driving at close to the speed limit. The officer had to maneuver his cruiser to block the accused in order to force him to a stop at Bath Road and Sir John A MacDonald Boulevard.

The accused was arrested for impaired driving and transported to police headquarters where he provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have 3 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The accused was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Man Arrested after Bringing Brass Knuckles to Fight That Never Happened

A 21-year-old local man is facing a criminal charge after trying to start a fight while wielding brass knuckles.

On June 12, 2017 at approximately 8:45 p.m. police responded to Joseph Street for a report of a man wielding brass knuckles while trying to start a fight. The accused was located nearby and upon a search the officers found the brass knuckles.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. The accused was charged with carry a concealed weapon.

Man Caught in the Act, Stealing from Vehicle

A 44-year-old local man was caught in the act when a plain clothes officer observed him go into a parking lot and steal from a vehicle.

On June 12, 2017 at approximately 2:00 p.m. an officer in plain clothes spotted the accused walk into a parking lot in the Queen Street and Wellington Street area. The accused is well known to police for thefts and he was quickly began looking into vehicles. The accused then entered an unlocked truck and removed several bags before leaving the parking lot.

The accused was stopped an arrested for possession of stolen property. The stolen property recovered included a laptop, a camera and even a lunch.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. The accused was charged with theft under $5000, and possession of stolen property.

Man Breaks into Residence and Wields Knives when Police Arrive

A 36-year-old local man is facing numerous charges after a violent episode at the residence of his estranged wife.

On June 10, 2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the accused attended the victim’s residence and could be heard yelling outside. Police were called as the accused began pounding on the front door, eventually breaking it down and entering the residence. The victim locked herself and a child in a bedroom.

Officers arrived and the accused armed himself with two kitchen knives, one in each hand. The accused refused to drop the knives and fled upstairs. Officers pursued at which point the accused dropped the knives and then spit in the face of one of the officers. The accused attempted to resist being handcuffed and force was required to gain compliance.

Further investigation revealed two previous incidents in September of 2015, where the accused had assaulted and harassed the victim.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with break and enter, assault police with a weapon, assault police, resist arrest, mischief under $5000, assault, harassment, and three counts of breach of probation.

Victim Attacked after Being Mistaken for another Man

An 18-year-old local man and a 16-year-old local youth were both arrested after attacking a man even after learning he was not the one they were looking for.

On June 11, 2017 at approximately 5:30 p.m. the victim was walking home with a friend when he was confronted by the two accused. They had mistook the victim for another man, but once they learned he was a friend of that man they decided to attack.

The victim fled and the two accused chased him to a parking lot on Cassidy Street. They caught the victim near the front door of the building and began striking and kicking him. The altercation was broken up by the man they had originally been looking for and police were called.

The two accused were later located at their residences and arrested. Both were transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused adult was charged with assault. The accused youth was charged with assault and breach of probation.

False Complaint ties up Police and Paramedic Resources

A 35-year-old local woman was arrested after making a false report that she witnessed a shooting.

On June 9, 2017 at approximately 4:15 p.m. the accused called police to report she had just witnessed a shooting in the backyard of an address on Wilson Street. The accused provided detailed information including names and descriptions of suspects and the victim, an address, and a vehicle with last known direction of travel.

Several officer responded quickly to the area and searched the residence and surrounding area with negative results. Police and paramedic resources were utilized for approximately 1 hour during the incident.

Detectives located the accused at an address over 5 kilometers away. An investigation confirmed the accused was not near the address on Wilson Street and have never witnessed any shooting.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with public mischief, two counts of breach undertaking, and breach recognizance.

Investigation Leads to Search Warrant, Drugs and Stolen Bicycles Found

A 33-year-old local man was found with numerous stolen bicycles and drugs in his home when police executed search warrant.

On June 9, 2017 Kingston Police Detectives obtained a warrant in relation to an investigation of the accused for theft. At approximately 1:00 p.m. officers entered his residence on Alfred Street and arrested the accused.

During a search of the residence officers recovered four high value stolen bicycles, a quantity of controlled drugs including suspected crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, and oxycodone (Percocet), a quantity of Canadian currency, a digital scale, various drug paraphernalia, brass knuckles, and numerous pellet guns modified to appear to be real firearms.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, five counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled drug.

Police Asking for Assistance to Identify B&E Suspect

Police are asking for assistance to identify a break and enter suspect. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2017 in the 300 block of University Avenue.

Police Asking for Assistance to Identify Bicycle Thieves

Police are asking for assistance to identify two thieves bicycle thieves. The theft occurred on April 28, 2017 at approximately 4:00 a.m. at 175 Bath Road apartment building.
