Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 93 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on July 10, 2017. Of these, 62 calls occurred in the city central area, 5 in the west end, 16 in the east end, and 1 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 1 domestic call
  • 2 harassment calls
  • 1 fight/disturbance call
  • 4 undesirable calls
  • 3 alarm calls
  • 2 noise complaints
  • 1 trouble with kids call
  • 4 Mental Health Act calls
  • 2 medical assist calls
  • 7 assist citizen calls
  • 3 break and enter calls
  • 6 theft calls
  • 4 mischief calls
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 1 motor vehicle collision
  • 4 driving complaints
  • 12 suspicious activity calls
  • 1 panhandling call
  • 3 drug calls

There were 5 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 3 men and 2 women, between 29 and 71 years of age, for the following: mischief over $5000, cause disturbance, impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

To further community awareness and improve accessibility to calls-for-police-service occurring in the community, Kingston Police has merged Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology with police calls-for-service data for user-friendly public consumption.

Man Arrested after Destroying Motel Room

A 49-year-old local man was arrested after destroying his motel room.

On July 10, 2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m. officers were called to a motel in the west end on Princess Street. The manager had called after finding one of the rooms totally trashed with furniture overturned and the door damaged. Plumbing pipes had also been broken and the room had subsequently flooded.

Officers located the accused in the room soaking wet. He was agitated and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with mischief over $5000.

Impaired Driver Caught After Running Several Stop Signs

A 71-year-old local man was arrested for impaired driving after witnesses observed him running stop signs.

On July 10, 2017 police received information of a vehicle on Ridley Drive that allegedly run through several stop signs. At approximately 9:00 p.m. officers located the vehicle parked in a driveway on Ridley Drive. The officer quickly blocked the driver as he attempted to back out. The driver was arrested as he exited the vehicle and stumbled backwards.

The driver was transported to police headquarters where he provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have approximately 2 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The accused was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Four New Kingston Police Employees – YIPI’s

Kingston Police welcome four fresh new faces who started today as part of our employment program for youths called YIPI (Youth-In-Policing-Initative). The goal of YIPI is to give young people an opportunity to develop job skills while enhancing police and community relations.

Our latest group of youths are excited about getting to work with Kingston Police over the next 8 weeks for a variety of reasons.

18-year-old Gabrielle was recommended to the program by her teacher and she is hoping to learn some life skills and responsibility.

16-year-old Chad learned about the program through social media and is hoping this experience will help him reach his goal of a career in law enforcement.

17-year-old Caitlin learned about the program through social media and is hoping that working for the Kingston Police will help her make a positive impact on our community.

16-year-old Jocelyn also learned about the program through social media. Jocelyn is hoping the experience will help her reach her goal of a career in law enforcement while giving her the chance to get to know the officers that serve our community.

The youths will work under the supervision and at the direction of our youth officer Constable Josh Conner.
