Answering the call to save lives

Emergency service workers in Kingston are answering the call to help save more lives as part of this summer’s Sirens for Life campaign. Emergency service workers often see the need for blood firsthand and members of Kingston Police, Kingston Fire &Rescue, Frontenac Paramedic Services, Stone Mills Fire Department, and Union of Canada Correctional Officers will be attending the event to donate. Emergency services personnel will be donating in uniform, and emergency vehicles will be on site.

The event takes place today, July 12, 1:00 p.m. at the Kingston Blood Donor Clinic, 850 Gardiners Road. Canadian Blood Services is asking local residents to also lend their arm by donating blood in support of their local emergency services.

Just one person who is seriously injured in a car crash could need as many as 50 blood donations to help save their life. In Kingston, the goal for this year’s Siren’s campaign is 48 units of blood at the Kick-off Event. In addition, Canadian Blood Services is hoping to recruit 143 new donors in Kingston during the month of July for this campaign.
