The Power of Beauty by Julie Bilotta – The Essence of Skincare 072217

Cornwall Ontario – Everyone wants to achieve that flawless look. I mean it’s a given who really does their makeup not wanting that?

Most people assume that using the best foundation may it be high end or drugstore foundation and concealer are going to hide all your imperfection, and that’s about 50% of what you can do to achieve that look! The other 50% is skincare!!

I cannot stress this enough.  If you’re going to spend a lot of money on just one product then definitely invest in a really good serum or moisturizer depending on your skin type. For example if you have oily skin or combination skin then you’re going to want to stick to a serum because it’s water based and won’t cause a break out opposed to a cream which is generally oil based.

I myself started using anti aging products around the age of 20 and most people have the misconception that it’s only for more mature skin, but doesn’t it make more sense to use anti aging products before you have wrinkles versus when you already do? In my opinion it makes all the sense I the world!

Someone with more mature skin can obviously use these products, but in all honesty I haven’t seen a cream or serum that gets rid of wrinkles. It may just prevent more to come! In any event you really shouldn’t skip out on skincare regardless of your age as it’s very important!

Other options that may be considered costly but work very well; which I also used to do at least once a month, were microdermabrasion and laser facials.

So what is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is somewhat useful for people with dull or sallow skin, mild acne, acne discoloration, pick marks, and very superficial acne scars. Microdermabrasion may be a good treatment option for patients with superficial skin problems and busy lifestyles who are looking for minimal benefits with virtually no side effects or downtime.

Individuals with deeper acne scars may expect a much longer series of treatments or likely benefit from physician-performed surgical dermabrasion, chemical peeling, or laser resurfacing. The treatment itself in microdermabrasion is tiny crystals that are sprayed onto the skin to gently remove the outer layer of your skin. This technique is less aggressive than dermabrasion so you don’t need numbing medicine.

It is basically an exfoliation and skin rejuvenation procedure that leaves skin looking softer and brighter! It also helps with fine lines and wrinkles! And if you’re wondering,  it does not hurt.  The only advice I’d give to people who enjoying tanning indoors or outside is to avoid it for at least a week due to the fact that your skin will be sensitive and you will be prone to burn easily which is obviously not good for your skin!

Laser facials are more targeted for more mature skin with wrinkles! Laser resurfacing is a treatment to reduce facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as blemishes or acne scars. The technique directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin, precisely removing skin layer by layer.

This popular procedure is also called lasabrasion, laser peel, or laser vaporization. If you have fine lines or wrinkles around your eyes or mouth or on your forehead, shallow scars from acne, or non-responsive skin after a facelift, then you may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing.

As far as pain goes for this treatment it may cause a little discomfort during the procedure but it’s really not that bad! Again you’re going to want to avoid tanning for a good week to avoid burning your skin! If you have acne or if you have very dark skin, you may not be a candidate. This technique is also not recommended for stretch marks.

You should discuss whether laser resurfacing is right for you by consulting with the doctor before having the procedure done. So in closing please take care of your skin you have it for life and it will definitely improve that flawless look we all try so hard to attain!

In the next columns to come I’ll start recommending products I’ve personally tried and know work for me. I can promise you that I will never suggest something that I don’t stand behind so look forward to honest reviews and some great products you can use covering both high end and drugstore dupes!
