Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 131 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on August 9, 2017. Of these, 77 calls occurred in the city central area, 29 in the west end, 8 in the east end, and 1 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 5 domestic calls
  • 2 harassment calls
  • 1 weapons offence call
  • 5 undesirable calls
  • 3 alarm calls
  • 5 noise complaints
  • 2 missing person calls
  • 1 Mental Health Act call
  • 6 medical assist calls
  • 7 assist citizen calls
  • 2 break and enter calls
  • 8 theft calls
  • 2 shoplifting calls
  • 1 theft of vehicle call
  • 2 mischief calls
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 6 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 8 driving complaints
  • 1 traffic concern
  • 9 suspicious activity calls

There were 6 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 3 men and 3 women, between 21 and 47 years of age, for the following: possession of stolen property, mischief, utter threats to cause death, utter threats to cause bodily harm, public intoxication, breach recognizance, and breach probation.

To further community awareness and improve accessibility to calls-for-police-service occurring in the community, Kingston Police has merged Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology with police calls-for-service data for user-friendly public consumption.

Suspect Identified through Forensic Testing on Vehicle

A 30-year-old local man has been arrested after he was identified through forensic testing on a stolen vehicle.

On May 26, 2017 at approximately 11:45 p.m. two suspects were seen entering a motor vehicle behind an apartment building on Stanley Street. The two fled towards the roadway on the arrival of a witness. The vehicle had substantial damage including a passenger side smashed out, a cracked bumper, broken wiper, broken radio, and liquid and blood spread throughout the vehicle.

An investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen earlier that day from the driveway of the owner. The vehicle and items within were processed by a Forensic Identification officer. As a result of the forensic testing a male suspect was identified and a warrant requested.

On August 9, 2017 at approximately 2:00 p.m. the male suspect was located walking on Rideau Street and arrested.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with possession of stolen property, and mischief. A second suspect is currently being sought.

Man Charged after Sending Text Message Threat

A 26-year-old local man has been charged after making threats through text messages towards his ex-girlfriend.

On August 6, 2017 police received information regarding the threats and began investigating. Police learned the accused had sent a message to a third party that he was going to kill “her” and he had a gun. The accused had also sent a message directly to the victim threatening physical injury. The accused whereabouts were unknown and a warrant was applied for.

On August 9, 2017 at approximately 9:00 a.m. the accused turned himself in at police headquarters. The accused was held to attend a bail hearing.

The accused was charged with utter threats to cause death and utter threats to cause bodily harm.

YIPIs (Youth In Policing Initiative) Carnival Fundraiser

Join the Kingston Police YIPIs for a fun night full of music, food and Police-themed games. The event will be held on August 22, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in the Frontenac Mall at 1300 Bath Road.

The evening is intended for youths and children, but all ages are welcomed. The featured activity of the night will be a realistic police training simulator, meant to challenge yourself and give you the opportunity to experience the life of a police officer first hand.

All proceeds raised will be donated to the United Way and Youth Activity Funds.
