The Power of Beauty by Julie Bilotta – How to Look More Youthful 092717

How to look more youthful

As we get older we tend to loose that natural glow and radiance, skin tends to be more on the dryer side so let’s focus on some tips on how to look more youthful and common makeup mistakes to avoid!

First things first skincare! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again this is the most important step to any beauty regime. Makeup is only going to look as good as your skin does so find yourself a good cream (if you have normal to dry skin) or a serum (if you have oily to combo skin) always make sure you’re applying makeup to a freshly washed face otherwise your trapping the dirt underneath your makeup which can cause breakouts and irritations and always make sure to remove your makeup at night because it is a proven fact that leaving makeup on can cause wrinkles!

Alright now that we have that out of the way let’s talk foundation! If you have more mature skin you’re going to want to avoid anything that’s going to dry out your face such as matte foundation because it will settle into the lines of your face and enhance then you’ll also want to avoid heavier foundations opt for a satin finish or even a luminous finish this will give you a nice glow and won’t draw as much attention to imperfections or wrinkles!

Want to splurge?

Try Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk or if on a budget try L’Oréal lumi foundation

When setting your face use a nice fluffy brush and lightly dust the powder over your face avoid using a sponge because it will pack it on thicker and accentuate those lines!

I would recommend using a loose translucent powder it’s more forgiving and not as heavy as compact powder. If you can try only dusting it over your t-zone this will leave your face looking fresh!

Want to splurge? Laura Mercier translucent powder or on a budget? Elf High Definition Powder.

Let’s talk eye makeup! When adding colours to your crease you’re going to want to avoid bringing it down to low it’ll cause your eyes to look droopy and make your face look saggy.

Contouring is a bit tricky when you have more mature skin and it can actually make you appear older then you really are. When you’re carving out your cheeks your giving the appearance of more hallow areas when you really want to make your skin look more plump which in turn makes you look more youthful so instead of bringing the contour shade low try only applying product from your hair line to the end of your eye anything else is going to make drag your skin down.

The goal is to make the skin lifted and plump!

Want to splurge? Kat Von D shade and light contour palette or on a budget? Wet and Wild contour palette

Alright on to bronzer and blush! When applying bronzer start from the middle of your forward going into a C shape on to the cheeks and repeat on the opposite side this will give you an uplifting effect. When applying blush you’re going to want to avoid dark colours try using a light pink or even a peachy shade.

Avoid using a heavy hand try lightly dusting it onto the apples of your cheeks for a fresh look.

Want to splurge?Orgasm blush by Nars or on a budget? Dolce pink bronzer by Milani.

Now let’s end this with lips! Creamy lipsticks and glosses are your best friend!

Liquid lipsticks and matte lipsticks will settle into any lines you have in your lips and really bring them out so will darker shades so try brighter colours or softer shades it’ll look much nicer!

Hopefully these tips will help in your every day makeup routine and will definitely help achieve that bright youthful look. Remember you’re beautiful no matter what age you are 🙂

  1. Julia: I was wondering if any of the cosmetics you have mentioned are hypo-allergenic?

  2. Dawn that’s a good question let me look into that for you and get back to you! Was there any product you specifically wanted to know about?

  3. Thanks Julia. No particular one..they all sounded great. I usually use Vichey or Marcelle because of allergic reactions.
