Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 123 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on November 22, 2017. Of these, 75 calls occurred in the city central area, 22 in the west end, 6 in the east end, and 2 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 3 domestic calls
  • 3 harassment calls
  • 4 fight/disturbance calls
  • 2 undesirable calls
  • 3 alarm calls
  • 1 trouble with kids call
  • 3 missing person calls
  • 2 Mental Health Act calls
  • 1 medical assist call
  • 4 assist citizen calls
  • 3 break and enter calls
  • 20 theft calls
  • 2 shoplifting calls
  • 5 mischief calls
  • 3 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 7 driving complaints
  • 12 suspicious activity calls
  • 3 drug calls

There were 10 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 5 men and 5 women, between 18 and 44 years of age, for the following: mischief, break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, unlawful possession of a controlled drug, theft, possession of a controlled drug, breach undertaking, breach recognizance, and breach probation.

Police Respond to Stuart Street Parking Garage

On November 23, 2017 Kingston Health Sciences Centre was made aware of an issue of public safety in the parking garage in the Queen’s University parking garage located at the intersection of Stuart Street and University Avenue. The concern was as a result of a bomb threat discovered in an email and Kingston Police were contacted. Queen’s University and KHSC took the appropriate safety measures and closed the garage as police responded.

Police have completed a thorough search of the garage and nothing suspicious was located. To facilitate the investigation, the garage will remain closed until further notice. Members of the public with vehicles in the garage are asked to remove them. All public buildings located near the garage remain open.

The public should be aware that this type of threat even if it is determined to be a hoax/prank is considered a criminal matter and it will be investigated and dealt with appropriately.

Officer Catches Pair in Vehicle with Drugs Ready for Use

A 43-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, both from Kingston, were caught hiding in a vehicle with drugs ready to use.

On November 22, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m. a patrol officer located a vehicle parked suspiciously in a secluded area in a lot off Sir John A Macdonald Boulevard. The officer investigated and while speaking with the occupants he observed a small bag of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The male driver was arrested and during a search of the vehicle various drug paraphernalia was located. The female passenger was arrested and additional bags of suspected crystal methamphetamine were locate in her purse.

Both accused was transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

Both accused were charged jointly with unlawful possession of a controlled drug. Both were additionally charged with breach of undertaking.

Man Arrested for Break and Enter when Officer catches him in the Act

A 39-year-old local man was caught in the act of break and enter by a patrol officer.

On November 23, 2017 at approximately 1:15 a.m. while performing property checks a patrol officer drove in behind a commercial property in the 600 block of Gardiners Road. The officer observed a bicycle and duffel bag on the ground near the fence. When the officer investigated further he discovered the gate lock was missing and then located the accused inside the property compound.

The accused was arrested and during a search the officer found tools commonly used for break and enter.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with mischief, break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, and breach undertaking.

Police Called after Paramedics Respond to Injured Woman

A 34-year-old local woman has been arrested after she injured herself while assaulting her common-law.

On November 23, 2017 in the early morning hours the victim and the accused were at a local bar. The accused became irritated with the victim and punched in the face. When the victim tried to calm her down, she punch him again in the face. The victim then left by taxi and return home.

A short time later the accused arrived at the residence and began yelling at the victim. The victim left for a short walk, but when he returned the accused began assaulting him until she fell and injured herself. The victim called ambulance to assist the accused and police were subsequently notified.

The accused was treated at hospital and once medically cleared she was transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

Further investigation revealed the accused assaulted the victim in early October. The accused was charged with two counts of assault.
