Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 123 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on December 28, 2017. Of these, 81 calls occurred in the city central area, 24 in the west end, 1 in the east end, and 3 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 1 shoplifting call
  • 3 mischief calls
  • 1 fraud call
  • 9 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 2 driving complaints
  • 4 traffic concerns
  • 9 suspicious activity calls
  • 1 trespass/prowler call

There were 4 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 3 men and 1 women, between 27 and 54 years of age, for the following: possession of a controlled substance, over 80 mg of alcohol, assault cause bodily harm, forcible confinement, theft, mischief, willfully cause suffering to an animal, assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and breach probation.

Traffic Stop for No Lights Ends in Arrest for Drug Possession

A 27-year-old local man stopped for driving with no lights was found to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

On December 27, 2017 at approximately 3:15 a.m. a patrol officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Bath Road with no lights on. The officer stopped the vehicle and learned the drive was unlicensed. The driver was found to be on probation and during a search officers found he was in possession of a crystal pipe with brown residue and a baggie containing suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he later released with a future court date.

The accused was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and breach probation.

Driver Rear-Ends Cab, Has 3 Times Legal Limit of Alcohol in Her System

A 32-year-old local woman was found to have approximately 3 times over the legal limit of alcohol in her system after she rear-ended a taxi.

On December 27, 2017 at approximately 11:45 p.m. officers investigating a rear-end collision on Division Street, near Stanley Street learned the driver of one vehicle had consumed alcohol. A roadside device was used to test the driver’s level of intoxication. The driver registered a fail and was subsequently arrested.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where she provided two breath samples and was found to have approximately 3 times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The accused was charged with over 80 mg of alcohol.

The accused was later released with a future court date. Her driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Man Attacks Common-law for Wanting to Visit Family during Holidays

A 54-year-old local man is facing multiple charges after violently assaulting his common-law for wanting to visit family during the holidays.

On December 24, 2017 a witness called 911 after hearing what he believed was a violent domestic. The victim then ran outside, out of breath and asking for the police to be called. Officers responded and located the victim who had minor but visible injuries. An investigation revealed the accused had allegedly been drinking and became angry with the victim over her wanting to visit family for the holidays. The accused then stole the victim’s cell phone so she could not call family. His behaviour worsened as he grabbed her cat by its fur and threatened to throw it out in the cold, he then violently attacked and choked her and later let the air out of her tires, so she could not leave.

The accused was not apprehended at the time and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

During further investigation police learned of a previous unreported incident in 2015. Once again the accused had been allegedly drinking and when the victim tried to leave he choked her and raised a knife above her heart while threatening to stab her.

On December 27, 2017 the accused was located and arrested. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault cause bodily harm, forcible confinement, theft, mischief, willfully cause suffering to an animal, assault, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats to cause death.

Man Asleep at the Wheel Found Transporting Multiple Bags of Marijuana

A 33-year-old local man was caught with multiple bags of suspected marijuana after he pulled into a lot and fell asleep at the wheel.

On December 28, 2017 at approximately 4:45 a.m. police responded to the area of Division Street and John Counter Boulevard for a possible impaired driver. An officer located a vehicle matching the description parked in a nearby lot. The vehicle was running and the driver was slumped over the steering wheel. The officer knocked on the window, but the driver was non-responsive. The officer opened the door and called out to the driver who eventually woke.

The officer detected a strong odour of marijuana and a records check revealed the driver was on conditions not to purchase or possess drugs without a medical prescription. The driver was arrested for breaching his probation and during a search of the vehicle the officer found multiple bags containing suspected marijuana.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. During a further search of the accused a small bag containing suspected oxycodone pills was found hidden in one of his socks.

The accused was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of breach probation.
