Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 294 calls for service over the weekend of January 5-7, 2018. Of these, 196 calls occurred in the city central area, 63 in the west end, 5 in the east end, and 2 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

There were 12 individuals arrested over the weekend of January 5-7, 2018 including 7 men and 5 women, between 23 and 56 years of age, for the following: possession of property obtained by crime, use stolen credit card, fraud, theft, assault, mischief, public intoxication, breach of peace, and breach probation. Three persons were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Good Samaritan Comes to Rescue of Child Found Outside in Extreme Cold

On January 6, 2018 at approximately 4:30 a.m. the complainant returned home from work to a west end apartment building. Upon exiting his vehicle the complainant could hear a young child crying. The complainant looked around and found a 3-year-old child pushing against a car door. At this time there was an extreme cold warning with temperature outside at -25 degrees Celsius and a wind chill of -38 degrees. The child was in bare feet and pajamas. The complainant brought the child inside and called police.

Officers located the child’s apartment and investigated. It was determined the child who is autistic, had woken up on his own and was able to unlock the door and exit the apartment without waking his parents.

Paramedics responded and took the child to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Police found no evidence of suspicious activity related to this incident. The complaint is credited with potentially saving the child’s life.

ARRESTED: Police Looking to Identify Theft and Assault Suspect

A 35-year-old local woman has been identified and arrested for theft and assault after her image was released to social media.

On December 22, 2017 an image of the suspect was released to social media. As a result of the release, police received multiple anonymous tips as to the possible identity of the suspect. An investigation confirmed the suspect’s identity and verified she was the person captured on surveillance video.

On January 5, 2018 police located and arrested the accused. The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was later released on conditions with a future court date.

The accused was charged with two counts of theft, assault, and breach probation.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

On December 9, 2017 at approximately 1:00 p.m. the suspect attended a clothing store in the downtown area. The suspect was stopped by staff and found with merchandise concealed in her backpack. The suspect then threw hot coffee at the staff member before running out the door.

The suspect was captured on video surveillance purchasing her coffee just prior to attending the clothing store.

Men Using Stolen Credit Card Identified on Surveillance Video

A 26-year-old local man and a 30-year-old Odessa man, have both been charged after police identify them on surveillance video using a stolen credit card.

On November 30, 2017 the complainant’s credit card was stolen from her vehicle. On the same date, the stolen credit card was used by the two accused men to make numerous purchases at various stores on Gardiners Road. Upon obtaining and reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified both accused.

The 26-year-old accused was found to already be in custody. On December 1, 2017 he had been arrested for an unrelated shoplifting incident and charged with multiple offences (release 17-40602 December 4, 2017 https://www.kingstonpolice.ca/news-events/news-releases/shoplifter-caught-with-break-in-tools-and-drugs/). During that arrest, the accused was also found in possession of various items that have now been determined to be some of the merchandise purchased with the stolen credit card.

The 30-year-old accused whereabouts were unknown and a warrant was applied for.

On January 6, 2018 a patrol officer came upon a vehicle stopped in the middle of Connaught Street with a door open. The 30-year-old accused was found sitting in the passenger seat and arrested. During a search officers located a small quantity of suspected cocaine, suspected hydromorphone pills and a syringe loaded with hydromorphone.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused parties have been jointly charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession/use of stolen credit card, and fraud. The 26-year-old accused was additionally charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and two counts of breach probation. The 30-year-old accused was additionally charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of breach probation.
