Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 150 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on February 20, 2018. Of these, 97 calls occurred in the city central area, 32 in the west end, 8 in the east end, and 2 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 6 domestic calls
  • 1 assault call
  • 2 harassment calls
  • 2 fight/disturbance calls
  • 5 undesirable calls
  • 1 drunk call
  • 5 alarm calls
  • 1 neighbour dispute call
  • 3 noise complaints
  • 1 missing person call
  • 2 Mental Health Act calls
  • 2 medical assist calls
  • 12 assist citizen calls
  • 5 break and enter calls
  • 13 theft calls
  • 4 shoplifting calls
  • 2 mischief calls
  • 3 fraud calls
  • 5 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 2 driving complaints
  • 4 traffic concerns
  • 9 suspicious activity calls

There were 12 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 7 men and 5 women, between 16 and 47 years of age, for the following: theft, possession of stolen property, possession of stolen property over $5000, attempt break and enter dwelling house, utter threats to cause death, assault, fail to appear, breach undertaking, and breach probation. Two persons were arrested on warrant.

Police Safely Stop Cigarette Thief in Stolen Vehicle

A 32-year-old local man was safely apprehended in a stolen vehicle after stealing cigarettes and fuel.

On February 20, 2018 at approximately 11:00 a.m. police took a report of a theft from a convenience store on Sydenham Road. Officers learned that an hour earlier the accused had stolen cigarettes and loose tobacco before fleeing in a silver vehicle. Witnesses had obtained a licence plate and a record check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen on February 12 from a Kingston address.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. the accused attended a convenience store on Highway 15. After fueling up the accused entered the store and asked for cigarettes. Once again the accused fled with cigarettes without paying in the stolen motor vehicle. Police were called and officers safely apprehended the accused as he exited the 401 at Division Street by blocking in the vehicle.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. Further investigation revealed the accused had also attempted a break in earlier the same day.

The accused was charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, five counts of possession of stolen property, attempt break and enter dwelling house, and breach probation.

Man Threatens to Kill Spouse if She Leaves Him

A 22-year-old local man has been arrested after threatening his spouse with death if she tried to leave him.

On February 20, 2018 at approximately 8:00 p.m. the accused and victim began arguing over money while at a store on Princess Street. Once in the vehicle the accused threatened to kill the victim if she left him. As soon as she was safely able to get away from the accused, the victim went to a family residence and contacted police.

The accused was located at their residence and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters and held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

Further investigation revealed that a couple days earlier the accused had assaulted the victim by punching her in the arm.

The accused was charged with utter threats to cause death, and assault.

Man Caught in Stolen Vehicle after Officer Checks Licence Plates

A 45-year-old local man was caught in a stolen vehicle with stolen property after a patrol officer conducted a licence plate check.

On February 20, 2018 at approximately 7:30 p.m. an officer on routine patrol conducted a licence plate check on a vehicle traveling on Division Street. The check revealed the plate was registered to another vehicle. After conducting a traffic stop to investigate the officer discovered the vehicle had two different plates, neither registered to it. Further investigation revealed both licence plates had been reported stolen and the motor vehicle had also been reported stolen out of Grenville OPP.

The driver was arrested and during a search of a backpack officers found a stolen laptop. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, theft, and breach probation.
