Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 135 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on April 9, 2018. Of these, 102 calls occurred in the city central area, 23 in the west end, 7 in the east end, and 1 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 3 Mental Health Act calls
  • 4 medical assist calls
  • 7 assist citizen calls
  • 2 break and enter calls
  • 8 theft calls
  • 4 mischief calls
  • 3 fraud calls
  • 5 motor vehicle collisions
  • 2 parking/vehicle complaints
  • 3 driving complaints
  • 12 suspicious activity calls
  • 1 trespass/prowler call

There were 8 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 7 men and 1 woman, between 20 and 45 years of age, for the following: assault with a weapon, assault, utter threats, harassment by threatening conduct, mischief, theft, use stolen credit card, public intoxication, and breach undertaking. One person was arrested on a warrant.

Man Loses his Temper Waiting for Fast Food and Attacks another Customer

A 23-year-old local man has been charged after head butting and hitting the victim with a construction pylon.

On April 9, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m. the accused and the victim were in line at a downtown fast food restaurant. The accused became impatient at the length of time his order was taking and began harassing the employees. Bystanders told the accused to calm down, but when the victim suggested he just cancel his order the accused became angry. The accused followed the victim outside and knocked him to the ground with a head butt. The accused began punching the victim until witnesses intervened. A few moments later the accused picked up a large construction pylon and began hitting the victim with it. When a witness warned he was calling police the accused threatened to beat him, but then fled in his vehicle.

Police located the accused at Queen Street and Barrie Street with the assistance of witnesses. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was later released on conditions with a future court date.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, assault, and utter threats.

UPDATE: Police Looking to Identify Baby Formula Thieves

On February 27, 2018 a male and female stole over $600 worth of baby formula from a grocery store on Princess Street. Further investigation revealed that a half hour before they had stolen just under $600 of baby formula from a grocery store on Midland Avenue. Kingston police shared images of the accused parties in an attempt to identify them.

On March 2, 2018 a male and female were arrested in St. Jerome, Quebec for shoplifting. The male and female were later identified as the suspects in the thefts from Kingston.

On April 9, 2018 Kingston Police took custody of the two accused who had since been arrested by Toronto Police. The two accused were transported to Kingston police headquarters.

A 20-year-old man and 20-year-old woman both from Scarborough have been charged with two counts of theft.

On February 27, 2018 a male and female stole over $600 worth of baby formula from a grocery store on Princess Street. The suspects were seen leaving in an orange Dodge mini-van with a Quebec licence plate. It is believed the same suspects were involved in a least two other thefts form another grocery store in Kingston and one in Brockville.



Thief Breaks Car Window, Steals Purse, and Uses Credit Card at 7 Locations

A 37-year-old local man is facing charges after police identify him for a theft from vehicle and use of a stolen credit card.

On February 16, 2018 at approximately 7:00 p.m. the complaint parked her vehicle in the lot of a west end mall. Within two hours the accused smashed out a window in her vehicle, stole her purse and used her prepaid card in seven different locations to make just over $900 worth of purchases. Police were called and the accused was identified through security video.

On April 8, 2018 at approximately 1:45 p.m. the accused was located in the area of Montreal and Stephen Street. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

The accused was charged with mischief, theft, use stolen credit card, and two counts of breach undertaking.

Kingston Police recommend that you make it a habit to never leave your wallet or purse inside your vehicle, even for a quick stop. Locked or unlocked a vehicle is not a safe place to leave your valuables. Cancelling credit/debit cards, dealing with potential identify fraud, and going through the process of obtaining new financial cards and identification is not only a significant inconvenience, it can also be a costly mistake.
