Road Rage Biker Pulls Knife on Plain Clothes Officer

Release Date: April 25, 2018

18-14608

A 20-year-old local man has been arrested after pulling a knife on an officer during a road rage incident.

On April 24, 2018 at approximately 7:00 p.m. an officer in the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit was driving in the area of Ford and Drennan Streets. The officer was in plain clothes and driving an unmarked car with no equipment identifying it as a police vehicle. The accused was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Drennan St, while travelling side by side with two other motorcycles and as a result crowding the westbound lanes. The accused gestured at the officer with his middle finger and as the motorcycles passed the officer could see the riders were wearing patches aligning themselves with a motorcycle club.

The officer turned the unmarked police vehicle around with the intent of obtaining licence plates. When the riders observed the officer behind, they pulled towards the right shoulder and stopped while still partially blocking the eastbound lanes. The officer pulled to the shoulder and stopped approximately 40 feet back at which time he confirmed two of the riders were wearing Outlaws MC vests while the third rider had Outlaws MC stickers on his motorcycle.

Immediately after stopping their bikes, the accused got off his motorcycle and approached in an aggressive manner. Before the officer could identify himself the accused pulled out a large hunting style knife and held it up in a stabbing motion as he began yelling. When the officer displayed his badge and identified himself, the accused tucked the knife away and retreated to his motorcycle.

The accused was arrested and two knives were found on his person. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of weapon dangerous, carry concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and intimidation by threats of violence.
