Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 393 calls for service over the weekend of May 25-27, 2018. Of these, 273 calls occurred in the city central area, 79 in the west end, 17 in the east end, and 14 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 7 shoplifting calls
  • 2 theft of vehicle call

There were 22 individuals arrested over the weekend of May 25-27, 2018 including 17 men and 5 women, between 14 and 57 years of age, for the following: assault, three counts of mischief, cause disturbance, five counts of theft, possession of stolen property, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, resist arrest, two counts of harassment by threatening conduct, utter death threats, possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, impaired driving, operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol, six counts of public intoxication, twelve counts of breach recognizance, and four counts of breach probation. Five people were arrested on warrants.

Man Arrested after Chasing Female Jogger

A 21-year-old local man was arrested after jumping out of bushes and chasing a female jogger on Friday evening.

On May 25, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. the victim was startled by a male who jumped out of the bushes as she was jogging on a lake shore path near Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The shirtless male shouted and began calling her names. When the victim turned and fled in the other direction, the male chased after her while grunting. The male stopped chasing her only when the victim came across security officers parked in the area. The security officers called police and followed the male as he started walking away. The male refused to stop for police and the responding officer was required to use force to effect an arrest.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. The accused was charged with harassment by threatening conduct, and breach probation.

The female victim had left after reporting the incident to security, but was later identified.

Two Kingston Men Arrested in Relation to Drug Trafficking

A 46-year-old man and a 57-year-old man, both from Kingston, have been arrested as a result of a drug trafficking investigation on Rideau Street.

On May 25, 2018 at approximately 7:15 p.m. the Kingston Police Emergency Response unit stopped a vehicle on Division Street. The vehicle was stopped as a result of an investigation by the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit and both male occupants were arrested.

A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of suspected crack and powder cocaine. The drugs along with over $1500 in Canadian currency, the vehicle and two cell phones were all seized. Both accused were transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing.

Both accused were charged with possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime. The 46-year-old male was additionally charged with breach recognizance.

Man Caught after Returning to Victims Apartment

A 27-year-old local man was arrested after returning to the victim’s apartment to continue harassing behaviour.

On May 25, 2018 at approximately 12:00 p.m. the accused attended the victim’s apartment and threatened to shoot him over an altercation the victim had with another party. The victim closed the door and called police, however the accused left prior to officers arriving. The accused returned around 7:00 p.m. and stood outside yelling obscenities. Officers located the accused a short time later in the area.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with harassment by threatening conduct, and utter death threats.

Kingston Police Looking for Witnesses to Car Surfing Incident

A 23-year-old local man has suffered serious injuries after falling off the roof of a moving vehicle.

On May 28, 2018 at approximately 2:45 a.m. a vehicle was travelling up Brock Street towards Division Street with one male body surfing on the roof and a second male holding on behind while skateboarding.

Police and Frontenac Paramedics responded were called when the male on the roof of the vehicle fell off, and suffered serious injuries. The male was transported to hospital by ambulance and is currently in ICU. Kingston Police Traffic Unit shut down Brock Street from Barrie to Division Street to conduct an investigation. The roadway was re-opened around 9:00 a.m. and the investigation has been handed over to Detectives.
