60 HANDGUNS SEIZED IN JOINT GUN SMUGGLING INVESTIGATION

Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) recently assisted the Toronto Police Service Gun and Gang Task Force in a gun smuggling investigation, resulting in the seizure of 60 prohibited handguns.

On May 23rd, 2018, at approximately 9:30 pm, police conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle in the area of McConnell Avenue. As a result of the traffic stop, officers located 60 prohibited handguns in the trunk of the motor vehicle. Harris Poyser (58) and Kareem Lewis (37) of the Toronto area were arrested, taken into custody and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking weapons.

The seizure of the weapons was a part of a greater operation called Project Patton, led by the Toronto Police Service in partnership with several other police agencies.

The CCPS believes that the seized firearms were destined for distribution in the Greater Toronto area.

“I attribute the successful arrest of the gun trafficking suspects to strong inter-agency cooperation,” said Detective Sergeant Chad Maxwell of the Criminal Investigations Division. “The seizure of these weapons will have a sweeping impact, not only in Cornwall, but in the Greater Toronto Area.”
