Ottawa man and woman charged with Human Trafficking offenses

(Ottawa)—A human trafficking investigation was commenced after a victim came forward to report incidents from June to December 2017.

The Ottawa Police Human Trafficking Unit investigated the historical matter and today, a search warrant was executed without incident in the 2800 block of Baycrest Drive.

Two people have been arrested and charged as follows:

Edmund ASANTE,(m) 26 years old of Ottawa:

  • 1x CCC 279.01(1) Trafficking in persons by exercising control
  • 1x CCC 279.02() Financial/Material Benefit/Trafficking in person over 18
  • 1x CCC 286.2(1) Material Benefit from Sexual Services,
  • 1x CCC 266 Assault
  • 1x CDSA 4(1) Possession of Schedule I
  • 1x CDSA 4(1) Possession of Schedule II

Kiana NORMAN,(f) 22 years old of Ottawa:

  • 1x CCC 286.2(1) material Benefit from Sexual Services
  • 1x CCC 286.4 Advertising another Person’s sexual services
  • 1x CCC 264.1(2) Uttering Threats cause death
  • 1x CDSA 4(1) Possession of  Schedule I
  • 1x CDSA 4(1) Possession of Schedule II

They are scheduled to appear in court Saturday for a Show Cause hearing.

The Human Trafficking Unit believes there may be more victims. The police investigation continues.
