Assault by Shoe & Pencil Leads to Charges in Cornwall Ontario #CCPS 120318

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT, THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old Newington man was arrested on November 30th, 2018 and charged with criminal harassment and threats. It is alleged the man repeatedly contacted his ex-girlfriend and made threats to kill her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 11th, 2018. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

RESIST ARREST, OBSTRUCT POLICE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Chiara Smoke-Thompson, 25, of Cornwall was arrested on December 1st, 2018 and charged with resist arrest, obstruct police and breach of undertaking for failing to keep the peace. While investigating an unrelated matter, it is alleged the woman falsely identified herself to police. The woman was taken into custody after a brief struggle, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on December 27th, 2018.

FRAUD UNDER $5000

Cornwall, ON – An 18-year-old Iroquois man was arrested on December 1st, 2018 and charged with fraud under $5000 x 2. It is alleged in September 2017, the man deposited two stolen cheques that did not belong to him. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On December 1st, 2018, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 20th, 2018. His name was not released as per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act as the man was a youth at the time of the incident.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Bruce Marshall, 38, of Cornwall was arrested on December 1st, 2018 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man took a cell phone that did not belong to him from a man he did not know. Police were contacted and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. On December 1st, 2018, the man was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on December 27th, 2018.

ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – Jessica Cooke, 27, of Cornwall was arrested on December 1st, 2018 and charged with assault. It is alleged the woman assaulted a man known to her during an argument and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 27th, 2018.

POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE, ASSAULT POLICE, RESIST ARREST, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Stephane Deguire, 34, of Cornwall was arrested on December 2nd, 2018 and charged with the following:

• Assault police x 2
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Resist arrest
• Breach of probation (for possessing a weapon and failing to keep the peace)

It is alleged on December 2nd, 2018, while investigating an unrelated matter, the man brandished a razor blade in the direction of two police officers. After a brief struggle, the man was taken into custody, was charged accordingly, and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Christina Lafrance, 34, of Cornwall was arrested on December 2nd, 2018 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the woman failed to attend court on October 10th, 2018 for breach charges and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On December 2nd, 2018, the woman was located by police. She was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.




ASSAULT, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, MISCHIEF UNDER $5000, THREATS

Cornwall, ON – Kayla Piche, 29, of Cornwall was arrested on December 2nd, 2018 and charged with the following:

• Assault x 3
• Assault with a weapon x 3
• Mischief under $5000
• Threats x 13

It is alleged while at the hospital on October 17th, 2018, the woman threatened and assaulted staff using a shoe and a door. It is further alleged on December 1st, 2018, the woman assaulted staff with a pencil, damaged a sanitize dispenser, and made threats to harm multiple staff members and damage their properties. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On December 2nd, 2018, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Melanie Derouchie, 39, of Cornwall was arrested on December 2nd, 2018 and charged with breach probation for being within 100 metres of a certain person and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on September 21, 2018, the woman attended the workplace of a certain person, despite her conditions, and police were contacted to investigate. On December 2nd, 2018, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 27th, 2018.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – James Sawatis, 38, of Cornwall was arrested on December 3rd, 2018 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, over 80 and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the man was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in the area of Brookdale Avenue and Second Street West and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 18th, 2018.

There were 113 calls for service in the City of Cornwall in over the weekend (8am Friday to 8am Monday morning).
