CFN New Year’s Eve FREEZING RAIN Alert for the Cornwall Ontario Region

A FREEZING RAIN alert for New Year’s eve may be putting a damper on the River City and for those who have to drive tonight.

Temps are hovering around the scary area where as little as one degree can be the difference between harmless wet stuff or killer freezing rain.

If you can stay off the roads to celebrate you’re ahead of the game and if you have to travel be smart, be safe, and arrive in 2019 in one piece!

3:18 PM EST Monday 31 December 2018
Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Freezing rain is expected tonight.

Snow or freezing rain will begin this evening and change to freezing rain later this evening or overnight. An extended period of freezing rain is likely overnight before the precipitation tapers off early Tuesday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
