Ethel Bingley, a Cornwall senior celebrated her 96th birthday on September 3rd. Ethel is a wonderful lady , always pleasant and friendly and admired by everyone who knows her. Happy Belated Birthday, Ethel.

Remember the old cigarette ads? Camel Cigarettes had an ad: “I’d walk a mile for a ‘Camel’.” There were also Lucky Strike, Marlboro (Marlboro Man) , Chesterfield, Viceroys, Newport, Winston and Kent to name only a few cigarette brands. One was advertised as a ‘healthy cigarette”. Guess not.

Whenever I get a Child Haven International newsletter, I enjoy reading every page. There are wonderful stories and photos of children, staff and volunteers working, studying, and playing which are always interesting and inspiring.

Often there are stories about the sad and unfortunate circumstances of why the children had to come to one of the homes. Fortunately, the Child Haven Organization welcomes these children into one of their loving homes.

Child Haven was founded in 1985 by Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino and Dr. Nat Shah to provide necessities of life to destitute and orphaned children and woman in need of food, clothing, health care, and education, moral and emotional support. There are 10 projects in Tibet in China, Nepal, Bangladesh and India as well as providing education for some children not living in one of their homes. The Canadian Directors of Child Haven are Fred, Bonnie, Dr. Shah, Peter Freud and Bernadette Caron.

In this photo in the Kaliyampoondi home in Tamil Nadu, India are five smiling children in a Grade 4 class with their Tudor Vasugi.

Below is a list of the Child Haven Support Groups and the upcoming fundraising dinners and contacts in each area.

The newsletter always ends with the inspiring quote of Rabindranath Tagore:

“Let me light my lamp, says the star,

And never debate if it will dispel the dark.”

Is this a beautiful cat or what? Tiger Boy! Big big baby!!!

Such a monkey! ! When someone is in the bathroom and he wants to get in to use his litter box, he waits patiently outside the door. When this photo was taken I had some visitors and one was in the bathroom. He just sat there in front of the door and waited and when they come out -he raced in, as usual. So cute!!!
