February has been a busy month so far. First we had Groundhog Day. Wilburton Willy apparently saw his shadow predicting an early spring. However, someone told me that he is only accurate 40% of the time. Guess we better not hold our breath until we see that first Robin.
Valentine’s Day on the 14th. brought lots of fun and valentines.
Here is a cute Valentine celebrating her first Valentine’s Day: Gabriella. She is the great-granddaughter of Bob Katz. He is very happy to have such a special and sweet Valentine this year. She is adorable.

February 17th. was Family Day and it was very nice to have a holiday in February.
February is also Heart and Stroke month. On the brochure from the Heart and Stroke Foundation are these warning signs of a stroke using the word FAST:
1) Face: is it drooping?
2) Arms: can you raise both?
3) Speech: is it slurred or jumbled?
4) Time- to call 9-1-1 right away.
Act FAST because the quicker you act, the more of the person you save.
Also are the signs of a Heart Attack :
1)Chest Discomfort: uncomfortable chest pressure, squeezing, fullness, pain, burning or heaviness.
2) Shortness of breath
3) Nausea
4) Discomfort in other areas of the Upper Body such as neck, jaw, shoulder, arms, back.
5) Sweating
6) Light- headedness.
Call 9-1-1- or your local emergency number right away.
There is a very interesting article in the March 2020 issue of the Reader’s Digest titled, “The Broken Hearts Club” by Lisa Bendall. It says that “every year, 63,000 Canadians have a heart attack, and many die because their symptoms are misdiagnosed”. The article is about “how to avoid becoming another statistic” and has practical advice for us all. Very informative article.
A very special Cornwall senior celebrated her 95th. birthday this month. Happy Happy Birthday to Evelyn Whaley.
The tenants of Beek Lindsay Seniors Residence held a retirement party for Linda Roach, Property Manager. The party was organized by Claudette Quesnel and Francine Ledoux. Linda is officially retired at the end of March. She has been on staff since the residence opened in May of 1988, almost 32 years ago. A big thank you goes out to Linda from all the residents for all her kindness and support over the years. All the best in your retirement, Linda.

A Snowbird relative of mine in Florida for the winter and I have been sharing weather reports this winter. Guess who is laughing? Not me with our snowy blowy reports. She sent me this photo just to rub it in, I think.
It was taken at the beach near Pass-a-Grille a community which is near St. Pete’s. There is a wonderful beach, outdoor restaurant and space for local artists to sell their creations. A fishing pier is two blocks away. Does that make us envious or what? Wonderful photo. I felt like getting out my oil paints and giving it a try with all that gorgeous scenery.
Looking at that beautiful water and the palm trees made me think of the words of the song by The Mamas and The Papas, “California dreamin’…on such a winter’s day.”
I guess!! Florida would be great also. All that warm sun, sand and sea. Super!! ” “Leaving on a jet plane….”
Sid, a friend of mine, sent in this old article about the 1944 earthquake in Cornwall.
He said he was told that the only thing that happened in his family’s house during the earthquake was that a bottle of ketchup fell off a shelf of the pantry.
There was no other damage.
I don’t remember my Mom saying anything about damage to our house.
I remember hearing over the years that people went running out of their houses.
How old were you when that happened.? Any memories?
I found this old stub from a Royals game at the Civic Complex, year unknown. The Cornwall Royals Hockey Team was a junior hockey team based in Cornwall. They played in a Quebec Major Junior hockey team based in Cornwall from 1969 to 1981 and the Ontario Hockey League form 1981 to 1992, according to a web site. The stub reads OHL, so it must have been after 1981. Price of the ticket was $5.50 .
On the back of the stub are two ads, one for Burger King and one for Tim Horton’s.
The Burger King ad reads: WHOPPER Meal Special -large order of French Fries, and a regular soft drink for only $2.75. Burger King Restaurants Brockville and Cornwall. (Drive thru open until 4am).
The Tim Horton’s ad reads: Buy 12 donuts or 6 Timuffins and receive 20 Timbits free. Good at any Tim Horton Donut Shop in Cornwall, Ontario.

“Gonna be a bear.
In this life I am a woman. In my next life I’d like to come back as a bear. When you’re a bear you hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for 6 months. I could deal with that.
Before you hibernate you’re supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.
When you’re a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you are sleeping and wake to partially grown cute cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.
If you are a Momma bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. I could deal with that.
If you are a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling and EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.
