Sock Attack Leads to Police Charges in Cornwall of Akwesasne Resident 03052020 #CPS

CAUSING A DISTURBANCE

Cornwall, ON – Joshua Deevy, 36, of Cornwall was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with causing a disturbance. It is alleged on March 4th, 2020, the man had attended a Pitt Street business and caused a disturbance by yelling and screaming. Police were contacted and took the man into custody during the investigation. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 52-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with two counts of domestic assault. It is alleged between July 2019 and February 2020, the man assaulted his common-law wife on two occasions. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 4th, 2020, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Blake Volpi, 32, of Avonmore was arrested on March 4th, 2020 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on August 29th, 2019 for a breach offence and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 4th, 2020, a member of the Cornwall Police Service attended the courthouse as the man was in custody on an unrelated matter. The warrant was executed and he remained in custody to await a bail hearing.

HARASSING COMMUNICATIONS

Cornwall, ON – A 35-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with harassing communications. It is alleged the man had repeatedly contacted his ex-girlfriend, despite being warned to stop. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 4th, 2020, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 26th, 2020. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

SHOPLIFTING, ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER, RESIST PEACE OFFICER

Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with theft under $5000, assault police and resist police. It is alleged on March 4th, the youth attended a Second Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store. He was stopped by the Loss Prevention Officer and assaulted him, as well as resisted being arrested by him. Police were contacted and took the man into custody. He was charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. His name was not released as per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

Cornwall, ON – John Cook, 41, of Akwesasne was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with assault with a weapon. It is alleged during an altercation with someone known to him, he assaulted the victim with a sock containing an object in it. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 32-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with eight counts of breach of probation for failing to notify probation of a change of address, for failing to live at an approved address, for contacting and being within a certain distance of his children, and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the man had been residing at a certain address, contrary to his conditions, where he had contact with his children. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 4th, 2020, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victims in the matter.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT, FORCIBLE CONFINEMENT

Cornwall, ON – A 40-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 4th, 2020 and charged with domestic assault and forcible confinement. It is alleged on March 4th, during an altercation with his common-law wife, the man assaulted her and prevented her from leaving the residence. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.
