Cornwall Confirms Respiratory Outbreak at Glen Stor Dun Lodge Seniors Residence 040120

Sadly CFN was tipped off that staff at the lodge were being tested last week. A call to a very nervous Steven Golden, director of the lodge was strange.

Mr. Golden couldn’t answer if any of the staff had been tested for COVID 19. He asked if he could call back and never did.

Now on Wednesday the city released the following. It should be noted that Princess Diamond Cruise ship passengers were housed next to the lodge at the NAV CANADA facility instead of a secure military facility like the Trenton Air Force Base.

The City is not confirming if the outbreak is COVID 19 at this point.

We will update as more info becomes available and you can reach us at info@cornwallfreenews.com if you wish to speak to us off or on the record.

Respiratory Outbreak at Lodge

As of April 1, 2020, the Glen Stor Dun Lodge has three suspected cases of respiratory illnesses among residents.

Staff will continue to monitor these cases and work with public health authorities while updating the community about the containment of the respiratory outbreak.

Lodge staff have implemented the pandemic plan and directions from the government, including the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario Health, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, and the World Health Organization. Measures include:

  • Frequent outbreak management team meetings to discuss the protocol and associated changes from the main bodies
  • Monitoring the outbreak (IPAC nurse led surveillance of residents/staff and appropriate course of action for those experiencing symptoms)
  • Actively screening all residents, at least twice daily, to identify if any resident has fever, cough or other symptoms.
  • Control measures for residents (isolation if experiencing symptoms, keeping a surplus of supplies, etc.)
  • Actively screening all staff twice per shift, including temperature checks. Anyone showing symptoms, are not allowed in the building and are sent home immediately to self-isolate.
  • Admissions, re-admissions are not allowed until the outbreak is over.
  • Support measures for staff and volunteers (e.g. accommodation if necessary, use of PPE as per guidelines mandated by Ontario Health for COVID-19 pandemic, etc.)
  • Monitoring Infection Prevention and Control measures for staff & everyone entering Glen Stor Dun Lodge (hand hygiene, enhancing cleaning, staff shortage plans etc.)
  • General control measures (restricting entry to main entrance for screening purposes from 5:30am to 10pm daily)

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lodge management team has been meeting regularly, monitoring the situation, and updating actions accordingly. Seniors have been identified as a vulnerable group and we have been focused on keeping our residents and employees safe while providing high quality care.

UPDATE – There has been media confirmation of COVID 19 testing at the lodge.

  1. I think it would be irresponsible if anyone suggested that somehow the Covid-19 virus hopped from NavCentre to GSDL. They have been gone for a couple of weeks now. We know it has to be carried in, not transmitted by magical means. But as this is still early in understanding this thing I guess anything is possible, eh?
