Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Grand Chief Abram Benedict Responds to $750M Lawsuit.

OCTOBER 1, 2020 – The MCA emailed CFN today with a response to the lawsuit issued in Federal Court against the MCA which we reported yesterday. LINK The Grand Chief Blocks this newspaper sadly. Perhaps he can explain why in a future email?

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne has received the statement of claim of Roger Thompson that was recently filed in the Federal Court of Canada. The case originates in a disputed right of way on Kawehnoke (Cornwall Island). This is a civil dispute between the occupants of two adjacent lots that the MCA is unable to resolve without the consent and cooperation of all concerned. Mr. Thompson quite understandably wants to restore road access to his property, but the lawsuit is misguided. His claim for $750 million in damages is an exaggeration, but the courts will determine the case’s merits.

  1. It is not just me being unable to access my property, but for all the other land issues MCA has created/ ignoring and failing to correct.
