HOCKEY CRUNCH Can Habs Swing a Deal with Anaheim for Max Comtois? By Jamie Gilcig

FEBRUARY 25, 2021 – This is not a rumour. This is not based on chatting with insiders.

This is from the NHL’s first Analytics and statographer, your truly, after analyzing the Habs situation during this season and seeing a window for team advancement with the hiring of the team’s new coach, Dominique Ducharme. (Wishing you well Dom!)

Comtois is a player that’s been on my Hab radar for a few years now. He’s getting lots of ice time this season and the Longueil native is a great fit for Montreal.

Now while sports radio and the internet is always filled with crazed fan theories, this is a play that a bold GM in Montreal could and should get done, even if it means shipping out the highly talented, and two years younger, Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Both players are in the final year of their entry level contract and similar in cap space. I’d try and get Anaheim to toss in Ben Hutton (maybe give them back Mete) for some proven LD depth.

It’s a doable deal with maybe a few moving parts depending on the moods of both Gm’s. Comtois is playing more LW, but is a C/LW.

Carey Price – there are possible plays for Price. He’d have to be headed to a Contender and there are a few actual fits, even with his contract. With a proven goalie in Jake Allen and lots of depth waiting in the wings, the right move for Montreal just may be finding a new start for Price as the team enters a new era and direction.
