Habs Hire Jeff Gorton. Bergevin Days May Finally Be Over. HOCKEY CRUNCH By Jamie Gilcig

NOVEMBER 28, 2021 – Omicron and an Anglo hire in Montreal management in the same week. It’s going to be an interesting week and the “le Journal de Montreal” crew will have fun with this, but it’s expected that there will be another hire.

Anglo Scott Mellanby resigned from the team. Can’t blame him if there was no room for him to move up.

Gorton had a successful run as interim GM in Boston before getting the big gig in NY with the Rangers. His big claim to fame was his ability to sign prominent free agents and his trade for star Centre Mika Zibanejad for Derrick Brassard. He is now Montreal’s Head of Hockey Operations.

The buzz is that there may be a hiring of someone like Mathieu Darche to be the GM which would be an interesting and positive tandem if it happens and one that should placate the noisiest of those the insist that key positions be held by francophones for the team.

Gorton is also experienced when it comes to rebuilds which the team may need to do with an aging core and dramatically underwhelming performances in spite of the fluky play off run last season.

More to come! Do you think this is the move the team needed to make? And will owner Geoff Molson divorce himself more from day to day management of the team?

UPDATE
