January 23, 2023 – The tenants of Beek Lindsay Seniors Residence held a Food Drive recently to benefit the Centre 105 at Trinity Anglican Church. A big thank you to all who donated and to Claudette Quesnel for all her work. Kudos.
Centre 105 provides a free hot breakfast from nine am to twelve noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. They offer a safe, social space as well as referrals to other agencies and a sign-up laundry program. Those skiers must have been praying again! Snow ..snow…snow!!! -When we were kids out of school – what to do? If the storm wasn’t too harsh our mother would let us go tobogganing on the big hill behind St. Columbans’ Church on Fourth Street. You can’t do it now because at the bottom of the hill is a parking lot. If we had to stay in we could read comic books or play games with siblings or a friend might pop in. We played Snakes and Ladders, Fish and even Monopoly. Mom would make popcorn and we were happy as could be. Let it snow all it wanted to. Ah, those were the days. – no home schooling for us. It was play time.
Whatever happened to Tupperware and the Tupperware parties? I still have some nice containers…good as new.
I was speaking to someone about the Tupperware articles and they showed me a card with some articles of the past on it. Some I think were before my time such as DeLorean, Gozilla, Lava Lamp,, Pac-Man ghosts and Beanie Baby. I did remember Frozen dinners, Slinky toy, View-Master, 45 rpm record adapter, Rabbit Ears and Silly Putty. How many do you remember??

Remember the days before retirement when it was snowing but you had to go to work anyway?? Some seniors were telling me about their experiences just getting their car warmed up and the snow off. In later days we had remotes we could just press through a window in the house and by the time we got outside, a lot of the snow was already melted off and the car was warm. I used to drive out to St. Raphael’s in snow storms. Whew!! That was fun!! And then come back home in the dark in the same storm. These are days we are glad we are retired and don’t have to do it for work in the winter anymore.
My relative Snowbird sent me a beautiful photo of a sunrise on a beach from Florida. A sunset is one thing but sunrise..what time is that?? I guess it is just like ours, about 7:30 am here.

A friend told me that he remembers returning home from his family cottage on Stonehouse Point in the 40’s. He would see the welcoming sign to Cornwall, “Welcome to Cornwall, The Friendly Town’. It was located near Inverarden, west of Grey’s Creek. I wonder if it is still there???
