Waterlife – Screening Sunday November 1, 2009 at The Port Theatre – 2 PM – CORNWALL ONTARIO

waterlife

Hello all.

The Cornwall Carbon Reduction Initiative will be hosting a screening of Waterlife, an award winning Canadian documentary which played to rave reviews at Toronto’s 2009 Hot Docs festival this past Spring. The film follows the flow of the Great Lakes from Lake Superior, through the St. Lawrence River and ending into the Atlantic Ocean, telling the story of the last great supply of fresh water on Earth. A cinematic poem filled with stunning imagery and fascinating people, Waterlife tells of the beauty of water and the danger of taking it for granted. One of those people is Josephine Mandamin, an Anishinabe water walker who went through our area in April en route to the Atlantic after having walked around each of the Great Lakes, one per year, since 2003.

Waterlife was written and directed by Kevin McMahon (touted as a kinder, gentler version of Michael Moore) and is narrated by Gord Downie, lead singer of The Tragically Hip. The film also features the music of Sam Roberts, Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Rós, Robbie Robertson and Brian Eno. It was produced by Primitive Entertainment in cooperation with the National Film Board of Canada.

Waterlife will be screened exclusively on Sunday, November 1st at 2:00 pm at the Port Theatre, 132 Montréal Road in Cornwall. Admission is a goodwill donation to the CCRI. After the show, DVD copies of the film will be sold in the lobby for $20.00 apiece. Funny, sad, serious and for all ages, it’s definitely one of this year’s “must see” movies.  For more information, please click on any of these links:
