Help Send Local Women’s National Soccer Forward Christina “Corky” Julien to FIFA World Cup in Germany – April 21, 2011 – Cornwall Golf & Country Club

Cornwall ON – It’s not everyday that a local athlete gets a chance to compete at the highest level of their sport and that’s exactly what Christina “Corky” Julien is about to do, but she like most Canadian athletes need your support to help make that happen.

The Cornwall Golf and Country Club are helping her cause by donating space for a fund raising dinner Thursday April 21st at 6 PM.  The proceeds are to help Ms Julien cover the costs for training and equipment as she prepares for  the Women’s FIFA World Cup in Germany where she’s a Forward for Canada’s National team!

The Dinner is $40.00 with a meet and greet at 6PM and the dinner served at 7PM.

Canada’s women’s national team forward Christina Julien discusses Canada’s win over Switzerland in the opening match at 2010 Cyprus Women’s Cup and and her game winning goal.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, has an international record of six wins and one loss in 2011. In the group phase of this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011, Canada will face host Germany on 26 June, France on 30 June, and Nigeria on 5 July. The top two teams from the group will qualify for the quarter-final phase.

  1. The Canadian Government covers all costs for training and equipment for the Canadian National Team, I think, so why the fundraiser?

  2. Canada does not pay for many of the expenses these atheletes incur. Secondly as they have a full time commitment they are not able to be employed due to their training schedules etc.As such the fundraiser is to help offset the expenses not paid for that each athelete incurs. How often does a Canadian soccer team rise to this level of excellence? This is a chance to say you are proud of her accomplishments and proud to support one of Canada’s teams.
