In the argument for companies to pay more tax, are goodwill gestures like this counted in? Take a bow Enbridge, you are doing a good thing here.
The donation is very nice, and no doubt extremely welcome to the fire department. Of course, it is completely tax deductible — not that they pay all that much tax, now that corporate rates have been reduced again.
My question is will Enbridge be making appropriate donations to the Vanderhoof and Fort St. James fire departments, amongst many others, which are in the path of their Northern Gateway Pipeline to supply China, and who will have to deal with the spills?
The reason for this is to attempt to create positive PR for their planned reversal of line 9b to send tar sands oil through SDG to montreal. Mirabel got $10,000; Belleville, got $25,000; Vaudreuil-Dorion got $20,000
Remember, 2010, pipeline in Kalamazoo MI burst, owned by enbridge, costs over 800 million $ to cleanup..
