With so many different fillers on the market and so much interest in them i thought i would dedicate this column to lip fillers and all the facts and fiction.

Lip augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgery or non-surgical procedure where they inject a lip filler to enhance and enlarge your lips. They can last anywhere from 3 months to 18 months depending on which filler you decide to go with. The most recommended lip fillers are the ones made from Hyaluronic acid a sugar found naturally in your body that adds temporary volume when injected to your lips.

Generally people start off with a full 1ml of lip filler but some go with .5ml for a more subtle look it really depends on the look you’re going for. Ive personally been experimenting with lip fillers for quite some time now and over a 4 month time span have gone up to 3.5MLS which is definitely a more dramatic look but i absolutely love it. In the past I’ve tried Restylane which can last anywhere from 3-6 months and then tried Juvederm which can last 6-9 months and then finally tried Teosyal Kiss which can last anywhere from a year to 18 months so far I haven’t lost any volume and my lips are still quite full. So lets go over a list of things I think you should know before booking your appointment.

1.If for any reason you are not happy with the results or want to go back to your normal size its totally fine because you can actually go back to the professional who performed the augmentation and have them dissolved.

2.The prices for lip injections vary but its generally around the $500 mark for a full 1ML.

3.Different lip fillers work better for different people thats why its important to do your research and schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon or a nurse practitioner.

4.The longevity of your lip fillers will also depend on how fast your body metabolizes them.

5.The procedure is pretty quick they’ll apply a numbing cream on your lips for about 20 minutes after that it takes about 10 minutes for the actual procedure.

6.Your lips will be swollen and the final results will be visible after approximately 2 weeks. There is a chance of bruising so if you have a special event to go to I would definitely do it the week before so that it gives your lips time to heal.

7.Im sure you’re wondering how bad it hurts and I personally don’t find it painful while others will say it was so its really going to depend on your tolerance to pain.

8.You may notice some small bumps which usually smooth out within a week or two but if not your injector can remove them.

9.There’s really not much after care except not touching your lips for the first 48 hours and no lipstick for about 6-8 hours.

10.Definitely know your options there’s so many fillers on the market to choose from so look into it and see which one is better suited for you.

11.Yes you can bring in a photo for reference but don’t be disappointed if they aren’t identical to the look you wanted everyone’s lips are shaped differently.

12.I wouldn’t recommend getting more then 1ML your first time if they aren’t big enough after they’ve settled then make another appointment and gradually increase them from there.

If you have lip fillers already I would love to hear about your experience if its something your planning on getting done let or have any questions let me know in the comments below!
