My Magical Day at the Music in the Pines Festival at Whispering Pines Campsite in Curran Ontario – July 4, 2011

Cornwall ON – Saturday was a mystical, magical, and musical day in Curran Ontario as I attended the Music in the Pines festival at the Whispering Pines Campsite.  Over 80 acres of magic in what was a former sand pit; owner Eileen Garde or “Mom” as so many people called her shared her piece of heaven with hundreds of people of all ages including those that attended the Tea in the Faerie Garden with fresh scones, cream, butter, and jam.

It was for a great cause with the proceeds donated the Children’s Make a Wish foundation.

How Whispering Pines came to be:

Eileen shared how what started out to be an idyllic retirement site turned into over 60 children being fostered over the years; a few being adopted; a children’s camp, and finally into its current formation as a campsite which felt more like a retreat and refuge.  Meandering paths; tall swaths of Pine trees, sandy beach and paths; a man made lake with tad poles and gold fish swimming; art gallery and so much more than words and pictures can do service to.

We stopped at the “Anger Tree” which had once been a majestic tree that was stuck and killed by lightning.   Eileen shared how children and adults as therapy could go to the tree and beat it to let out their anger and yet though even dead new life had sprung from the tree.

It’s not like some big aqua park.  Day passes to the site are $3 per person and are perfect to get away to meditate, sketch or just walk and think amongst nature.    While you won’t always hear music in the distance as I died while a choir was performing you will be able to share a bit of something very special.
