Ottawa Police K9 Tracks Down Suspects After Hit & Run MAY 10, 2016

Two men arrested and charged following successful K9 track

 

(Ottawa)—On Monday May 9, 2016 shortly after midnight, Ottawa Police responded to a hit and run on Murray Street and Cumberland Avenue. The suspect vehicle fled the scene driving dangerously at a high rate of speed, failing to stop at red lights and then was involved in a series of hit and runs with parked vehicles and city property in the ByWard Market area.

The suspect vehicle continued onto the 417 Westbound where it came to a stop just before the Bronson Avenue off ramp.  Witnesses observed two males exiting the vehicle then fleeing on foot toward Arlington Avenue. A Police Canine (K9) track ensued and the foot pursuit resulted in the apprehension of both suspects. The driver sustained minor injuries during the arrest and was soon released from hospital.

Further investigation by Central District Investigators revealed that the two suspects were involved in a Break and Enter in the west end of Ottawa where several items were taken from a home while the occupants slept. The suspects stole the homeowner’s vehicle and drove to the ByWard Market area.

As a result, the driver of the vehicle Nicholas LALONDE, 22 years old of Ottawa was charged with Breaking and Entering, Possession of stolen property obtained by crime, Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Driving while disqualified, Failure to stop at scene of accident, Refusing to provide breath sample and Breach of probation.

Also charged is Sharmarke ABDI-DJAMA, 20 years old from Ottawa with Breaking and entering, Possession of stolen property obtained by crime, and Failure to comply with recognizance.

They are both scheduled to appear in court today.
