Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 384 calls for service over the weekend of December 1-3, 2017. Of these, 243 calls occurred in the city central area, 88 in the west end, 8 in the east end, and 5 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

• 3 impaired driving calls
• 3 parking/vehicle complaints

• 2 traffic concerns
• 32 suspicious activity calls

There were 16 individuals arrested over the weekend of December 1-3, 2017 including 12 men and 4 women, between 14 and 56 years of age, for the following: utter threats to cause death, mischief, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, carry concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, possession of a controlled substance, theft, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in tools, public intoxication, breach peace, breach recognizance, and breach probation. Two persons were arrested on warrants.

Man Arrested after Threatening to Kill Roommate

A 44-year-old local man has been arrested after throwing a temper tantrum and repeatedly threatening to kill his roommate.

On December 2, 2017 the victim returned home and discovered the residence was very hot. When the victim adjusted the thermostat the accused became angry and started to yell and swear and threaten to kill him. The victim retreated to his room and locked the door at which point the accused began kicking at the door while continuing to yell death threats. The door was damaged as a result, however the accused failed to gain entry into the room and eventually stopped on his own accord.

On December 3, 2017 at approximately 10:45 a.m. the victim called the landlord to report the damage to his door and have it fixed. The accused became enraged when he overheard the conversation and began yelling more death threats. Police were called and the accused was arrested.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of utter threats to cause death and mischief.

Suspended Driver Flees Scene of Collision

A 25-year-old local man driving is facing multiple charges after driving suspended and fleeing the scene of a collision.

On December 3, 2017 at approximately 7:15 p.m. the complainant was driving eastbound on Bath Road with his family. The complainant had stopped for a red light at Centennial Drive. When the light turned green he proceeded forward and was struck violently from behind by the accused who then fled the scene of the collision.

Witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and licence plate. Officers located the accused at his address and arrested him. A licence check revealed the accused was prohibited from driving with three separate suspensions on file. The accused was issued a summons to court and charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive suspend, careless driving and fail to remain.

Bad Driving While Eating Pizza Ends in Arrest

A 40-year-old Belleville man and a 32-year-old Picton man were caught with drugs after bad driving resulted in a traffic stop.

On December 2, 2017 at approximately 7:30 p.m. a patrol officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Division Street at a very slow speed. The vehicle went from hugging the curb to swerving erratically and crossing the centre line.

The officer stopped the vehicle to conduct a sobriety check and discovered the driver was eating pizza. Officers searched the vehicle after observing open alcohol and located two bags containing approximately $1300 worth of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The 40-year-old driver and 32-year-old passenger were arrested. The driver was found to have an additional small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine on his person while the passenger was found to be concealing a knife.

Both accused were transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing.

Both accused were charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. The driver was additionally charged with breach recognizance. The passenger was additionally charged with carry concealed weapon.

Man Stopped for Checking Parked Cars, Caught with Knives and Drugs

A 27-year-old local man is facing 16 charges after he was stopped by police when witnesses reported suspicious person checking parked cars.

On December 2, 2017 at approximately 9:30 a.m. officers responded to the area of Sydenham Street and Bay Street for a report of suspicious persons checking parked cars. The accused was located in front of an address on Montreal Street. The accused matched the description of the one of the suspicious persons and was arrested. During a search the accused was found to be in possession of four knives, a small baggie of suspected cocaine, and a small baggie of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

The accused is currently prohibited from carrying weapons and on multiple probation orders with conditions not to possess any weapons. The accused was charged with four counts of carry concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, three counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and five counts of breach probation.

Shoplifter Caught with Break-In Tools and Drugs

A 26-year-old local man is facing multiple charges after a failed shoplifting attempt.

On December 1, 2017 at approximately 2:00 p.m. the accused entered a store in the 1200 block of Division Street. The accused opened and concealed merchandise before attending the cash to pay for other items he had selected. Store security apprehended the accused and police were called.

On arrival officers searched the accused and found he was in possession of items commonly used to commit break and enter, multiple personal identification cards not in his name, multiple cell phones and a Ziploc bag containing suspected marijuana.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in tools, and two counts of breach probation.
