Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 110 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on January 2, 2018. Of these, 74 calls occurred in the city central area, 21 in the west end, 6 in the east end, and 4 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

• 4 domestic calls
• 1 harassment call
• 2 fight/disturbance calls
• 3 undesirable calls
• 6 alarm calls
• 5 neighbour dispute calls
• 2 noise complaints
• 3 missing person calls
• 1 Mental Health Act call
• 6 medical assist calls
• 5 assist citizen calls
• 6 break and enter calls
• 6 theft calls
• 1 shoplifting call
• 1 theft of vehicle call
• 2 fraud calls
• 11 motor vehicle collisions
• 1 impaired driving call
• 1 parking/vehicle complaint
• 3 driving complaints
• 8 suspicious activity calls
• 1 drug call

There were 4 men arrested within the last 24 hours, between 39 and 78 years of age, for the following: break and enter, theft, possession of controlled substance, and breach probation.

Man Caught Inside Home as K9 Leads Officers to Second Break and Enter

A 39-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested after K9 tracked him to the second home he had broken into on Highway 2, east of Kingston.

On January 2, 2017 at approximately 4:45 p.m. the complainant located a male inside his neighbours garage. The male appeared to be confused and gave no reason for being in there. The male then put on some blue coveralls and left, jogging eastbound on Highway 2.

The complainant called police and patrol officers responded to attempt to locate the male. Out of concern for his well-being, K9 was called out to assist in the search. K9 followed a track from the garage to the back door of another residence on Highway 2, a short walking distance away.

When officers knocked on the front door a television inside suddenly went off. A male in blue coveralls then appeared at the back door, but stopped when he spotted the K9 unit. A few moments later the male appeared at the front door. The male attempted to convince officers that he had permission to be in the residence. Officers were able to contact the owners and confirmed they did not know the male and he was not welcomed in their home.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of break and enter, and breach probation.

Donation Bin Thief Caught in the Act

A 42-year-old local man has been arrested after a patrol officer caught him stealing from donation bins.

On January 2, 2018 at approximately 12:00 a.m. a patrol officer observed the accused digging through a donation bin at a location on Bath Road. When the officer spoke with the accused, he reported that a second male had cut the lock off a larger bin around the corner and was inside it at that time.

With the accused in the back of his cruiser the officer drove around to investigate. The officer located a truck hidden behind a snowbank with a female sitting in the driver’s seat. The officer learned the female was with the accused and the items in the truck had come from the accused going through the bins. The second donation bin was unlocked with no one inside and the officer determined the accused had also gone through that bin.

The items in the bin are collected and based on their weight, the shop makes donations to the Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy. Stealing items from the bin is considered theft from the shop and the charity. The accused was arrested and also found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The accused transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with theft, and possession of controlled substance.

Police Asking for Public’s Assistance to Locate Missing Woman

Police are asking for the public’s assistance to locate missing 20-year-old Jazmine Perrett.

Jazmine was last seen in Kingston, boarding a bus to St. Catherine with a changeover in Toronto.

Jazmine never made the changeover in Toronto and has been missing since December 29, 2017.

Jasmine is a white female, 5’3”, 119lbs, with dark hair.

Police Asking for Assistance to Identify Suspect Using Stolen Credit Card

On December 15, 2017 the complainant’s vehicle was broken into while parked in a lot on Wright Crescent. Her purse containing various items including credit and debit cards was stolen. The suspect used the credit card twice, to make purchases at a Beer store. Later the same day, the credit card was used in an attempt to purchase over $3300 in goods at a hardware store, however the transaction was declined.
