Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 150 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on May 22, 2018. Of these, 104 calls occurred in the city central area, 28 in the west end, 11 in the east end, and 1 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

• 1 assault call
• 1 sexual assault
• 4 harassment calls
• 2 fight/disturbance calls
• 5 undesirable calls
• 1 drunk call
• 1 customer trouble call
• 1 custody dispute call
• 4 alarm calls
• 1 neighbour dispute call
• 3 noise complaints
• 2 Mental Health Act calls
• 2 medical assist calls
• 21 assist citizen calls
• 7 break and enter calls
• 9 theft calls
• 2 shoplifting calls
• 2 theft of vehicle calls
• 3 mischief calls
• 2 fraud calls
• 7 motor vehicle collisions
• 3 driving complaints
• 10 suspicious activity calls

There were 8 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 7 men and 1 woman, between 19 and 53 years of age, for the following: impaired by drugs while having care and control of a motor vehicle, sexual assault, willfully cause unnecessary pain to an animal, assault, obstruct police, public intoxication, three counts of breach recognizance, and two counts of breach probation. One person was arrested on a warrant.

Woman and Dog Assaulted in Local Park

A 36-year-old local man has been charged after grabbing a dog’s genitals and a woman’s buttocks.

On May 22, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the victim was in McBurney Park with her dog. The accused approached and when he bent down to pet the dog, he grabbed the dog’s genitals and squeezed until the dog yelped in pain. The accused then made inappropriate sexual comments towards the victim and grabbed her buttocks. The victim was able to get away from the accused and call police.

Responding officers located the accused still in the park. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with sexual assault, and willfully cause unnecessary pain to an animal.



Passed Out Driver Found with Crystal Methamphetamine Pipe

A 22-year-old local man was found passed out behind the wheel while impaired by drug.

On May 22, 2018 at approximately 9:30 p.m. officers responded to Ontario Street for a report of a male passed out in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle with the engine running. After the male did not respond to knocking on the window, the officer opened the car door to discover a suspected crystal methamphetamine pipe on the driver’s leg.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was tested by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Officer. At the conclusion of the tests it was the determination of the DRE that the accused was impaired by drug. The accused was charged with impaired by drugs while having care and control of a motor vehicle.

The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.
