Suspect arrested after striking police vehicle on Innes Road
(Ottawa) – Frontline officers arrested a male suspect after he attempted to flee police and struck a police vehicle multiple times in the east end of Ottawa, at 3:00 am this morning.
Frontline officers were responding to a call about a large fight at the 4000 block of Innes Road. The crowd dispersed as officers arrived, however one male remained on scene. The male entered a vehicle, ignored officer’s orders to stop, and used his vehicle to strike an officer and flee the area.
Another officer who arrived on scene attempted to initiate a traffic stop; but the suspect ignored the officer and struck his police vehicle repeatedly. The officer then used a pit maneuver rendering the suspect’s vehicle inoperable. The driver was arrested on scene. No one was injured.
Thierry NKURUNZIZA, 38 years old of Ottawa, is facing charges of:
- Driving while ability impaired
- Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood
- Driving while disqualified
- Dangerous operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to stop for police
- Assault with a weapon
- Mischief over $5000
- Obstructing Peace Officer
NKURUNZIZA will be appearing in show cause court today.
