Christmas Comes Early for Habs Fans – Markov scores 2 in Triumphant return – Halak Shuts Out Islanders – Monster Gets Shut Out for Leafs – NHL round up – December 20, 2009

Christmas came early for Montreal fans as Andrei Markov not only returned to the line up, but notched two goals and Jaroslav Halak shut out the NY Islanders last night.

The Habs were still out shot 40-28, but Halak stood on his head as he’s been known to do and Montreal breaks their losing skid now that their best player is back.

All three Montreal goals were on the power play which is good news; the bad news being that they were on the PK more than on the PP.

Montreal is going to need more than Brian Gionta’s return to change the amount of PP minutes the team draws.   They still need a top six forward and the defense, while deep, is missing some chemistry and scoring depth.   They have too many D men with similar skill sets.  Too many big slow bodies with limited transition skills.

Two goals were all the Leafs needed to put away Boston as Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson made his return count.

Ottawa whooped the Wolves 4-1. M.Brodeur got the win for Ottawa.   That would be Mike and not Marty 🙂
