Aultsville Winter Film Fest a Complete Success – Cornwall Ontario – February 1, 2010

I wear a lot of hats.   This weekend I got to watch four out of the five films shown at this year’s Aultsville Winter Filmfest as a ticket purchasing fan of film.

If there were a manual in how to get a community driven event off the ground and run, this would be the example used. The selection of films were amazing; the locales perfect; and the community responded by filling the seats and showing their support.

I attended this year not as a media person, or a filmmaker, but simply as a paying customer.   My wife purchased group tickets for us as a Christmas gift.    It truly was interesting finding and meeting so many people that love movies that rarely get shown in Cornwall.

Kudos to the entire board and volunteers who made it all possible, and to the Galaxy theatre who hosted the event.

We can’t wait until next year and my favorite film of the four I saw was the documentary “Prom Night in Mississippi” which was about Oscar Winner Morgan Freeman sponsoring an integrated prom in his home town which had still had segregated proms even though the kids went to school together.

See everyone next year, and of course at the Wednesday night series of films.

The Penelope Cruz starring flick “Broken Embraces” plays  February 17.
