Cornwall City Councilor Mark MacDonald from the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver British Columbia Canada – Febaruary 18, 2010

Cornwall City Councilor and potential Mayoralty candidate Mark MacDonald is in Vancouver for the Olympics.  He sent this message in for you, our readers.

The streets of Vancouver are very busy, especially at night.  When my shift is finished, about 9:00 p.m., I walk to where I am staying and it takes about a 1/2 hr.  This is a photo I took of a street hockey game that some guys were playing in the middle of the road on Granville St near Robson, how Canadian is that.  It was the night that Team Canada played their first game.  As you can see there are about 2,000 people watching this game.

Almost everything is sold out, there are line-ups to get into all the activities taking place but nobody seems to mind.  It is a complete party atmosphere and you can feel the energy of the city.

Security has been tightened even more now that news came out about the issue involving vice president Joe Biden.

In scores from the Men’s Hockey, Finland stomped Belarus 5-1.   Sergei Kostitsyn had the lone Belarus goal.  Sweden shut out Germany 2-0, and Jaromir Jagr, Tomas Plekanec, and Patrik Elias led the Czech Republic over Slovakia 3-1.
