Philly Wins Heartbreaker in OT – Flyers, Penguins, Coyotes take 2-1 Series Leads – NHL PLAY OFFS – Cornwall Ontario – April 19, 2010

Cornwall ON – Martin Brodeur nearly stole one for the New Jersey Devils last night, but finally succumbed to a Philadelphia team that played smash mouth hockey.    Daniel Carcillo, not noted for scoring heroics put the game winner in the net in what had to have been one of the most exciting games I’ve watched in a long time.

It was bang on end to end; hardly much passing and finesse.   It was trench warfare with most of the time spent in the New Jersey end where Mr. Brodeur showed why he is the greatest goalie to have ever stood between the pipes.

Sadly his team just couldn’t mount much offense; especially after the 2nd period.  Brian Rolston scored both goals for New Jersey on the Power Play, but once the whistles were essentially put away in the third New Jersey’s deficiency playing five on five weighed them down as they were out shot 34-19 for the evening.   Philly now takes a 2-1 lead in the series.

Phoenix took a 2-1 game lead in their series with the Red Wings winning 4-2.  The Yotes owned the rings after the first period in the close game.

Pittsburgh overcame the injury depleted Ottawa Senators taking a 2-1 lead in their series with a 4-2 victory.   Chicago Shut Out Nashville 2-0, Colorado took a 2-1 series lead in OT as San Jose starts their annual Play Off Choke!

NHL SCORES

The Habs are back tonight against the Caps. It should be interesting to see how both teams respond to their emotional game 2.
