Bob Copeland to Run for Council for South Stormont Ontario – September 25, 2010

BOB COPELAND SEEKS ELECTION AS COUNCILLOR IN THE

TOWNSHIP OF SOUTH STORMONT, OCTOBER 25,2010

My name is Bob Copeland, President of Coping Strategies Inc., and I am seeking election as a Councillor in the Township of South Stormont in October 2010.  I have lived in the Lakeview Heights area of Long Sault since 1996, having relocated from Orleans.

These are the most important things that I believe will contribute to the future growth and development of the Township of South Stormont:

  • Increased involvement of young people in municipal and community affairs
  • An Economic Development Officer dedicated to attracting new business and commercial enterprises to South Stormont in order to develop its potential and reinvigorate the community
  • Completion of the renovation of the Ingleside and Long Sault plazas to make them more attractive to residents and visitors

Recently retired, I am able to be a full-time Councillor.  I would bring to this position more than thirty years experience in management positions in the Government of Canada, with an emphasis on large budget project management, training, legislation, personnel and union/management relations.

In addition I have worked as a volunteer on a number of community-based projects.

While in Orleans, I was involved in a self-funded youth organization involving the consultation and participation of youth. As well I chaired a committee of twenty-two organizations whose efforts resulted in the construction of a new YM/YWCA facility, and also worked with two Ottawa School Boards to build new schools and upgrade existing facilities.

At the time of filing my nomination papers for Council, I was the President of the South Stormont Chamber of Commerce.  I am a Captain in the Team Cornwall organization, a member of the Cornwall Business Association and involved on committees of the Children’s Treatment Centre of Cornwall, S.D. &G. and Akwesasne.  I was involved in the 2002 Wall Dog Mural Project, highway signage and train station renovations. In 2009 I was a member of the organizing committee of South Stormont’s Beacon 50.

I would be proud to serve the people of South Stormont as a member of Council, using my extensive skills and experience for the improvement of our Township.

A vote for Bob Copeland is a vote for community involvement in our future prosperity.
