Speed, Lack of Attention Cause of Accident in East End

Shortly after 9:00 pm, a car driving east, on First St E, between Alice and Guy, well in excess of the 50 km/hr speed limit met a pickup truck, heading south on Guy St, failed to stop at the stop sign.

The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection, forcing the truck to the left, hitting the corner of Bergeron’s Sleep Shop. The momentum of the car was so great that, in bouncing off the truck, it skidded 100 feet south on Guy before finally coming to a stop.

A shouting match ensued between the drivers, but calmed down before police arrived on the scene.

Drivers and passengers escaped serious injury, although one driver was treated at the scene by EMS personnel. Damage to the vehicles was extensive.

Local residents complained about excessive speed in the neighborhood suggesting that a four way stop was needed at First and Guy.
