LOCAL BAND SET TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD

Local folk-pop-rock band The General Electryk will release their long-awaited debut album “Petty Little Things” with the official launch party set for Thursday October 28th, 2010 at 8pm at Schnitzels European Flavours 158 Pitt St. Cornwall. The evening will feature Graham Greer as an opening act, who co-wrote one of the songs on the album. Merchandise will be available for sale at the venue and there’s no cover charge. It’s sure to fill up quickly so get there early for good seats!

The album was produced by The General Electryk and Glenn Forrester (Barstool Prophets, Greenwich Meantime, Enter The Haggis) and is nearly a year in the making. “What started out as a duo project (with Mélanie and Angus) changed a lot over this past year. The album is that much richer with the addition of Marc D. Muir on lead guitar, Jason Ryan on bass and Noureddine (pronounced ‘Noordin’) Ismag on conga/djembe. We’re stoked, Glenn was able to facilitate the sound we wanted, and the songs have grown because of it…” says Mélanie, the lead vocalist, of the recording process.

The album also features the keyboard sounds of Eric Sauvé who tours with Roch Voisine and has worked with Amanda Marshall and Offenbach. “The sound of the album is very up-to-date, very “now”…” said Eric of the project.  And the beautiful artwork?  “Jason McNamara of Framed Photography is so creative and takes the best photos I’ve seen across the globe. There was no question we just had to have him shoot the album,” says Angus who, with Mélanie, designs all their own posters and took on the challenge of creating the graphics and the look for the album. “It was a big job but I’m glad we did it. We’ve learned a lot about the business of music thanks to great mentors and I think that will give us an advantage in such a fast-paced industry.” added Mélanie

The General Electryk has had a very busy summer. They opened for Chantal Kreviazuk at Cornwall Kinsmen’s Lift Off 2010, spent time in the studio recording the album all while playing shows all around Cornwall, Ottawa, Kingston and Montréal.  Next summer looks to be just as busy with an Ontario and Eastern Canada tour in the works.

This band is known for their community involvement. They were featured in both local “Spirit of a City” and “Feed a City” compilation albums, they held an Auction For Autism in 2009, they are part of the Parade of Nations and they have played various shows for the United Way, Community Living and Children’s Treatment Centre. And it doesn’t stop there.  Mélanie and Angus of The General Electryk will be heading out to Australia at the end of 2010 to tour the album and cement their music career over two hemispheres. “We are lucky to have the opportunity to spread our music around the world, that’s something not many people get to do even once in a lifetime. We’re blessed to have so much support…” Angus said.
