Green Bay Packers Win SUPERBOWL 31-25: Rodgers ends Favre comparisons by Markus Noé – February 7, 2011 – 11/14

Ottawa ON – Aaron Rodgers accomplished a lot tonight during his first Super Bowl appearance. He has brought back the Lombardi trophy to a deserving fan base at the same time as stepping out of a legends shadow.
.
Ever since Green Bay abruptly ended their relationship with Favre in favour of Rogers their fan base has been critical of the decision. However after tonight’s performance, all of that should soon be a distant memory.
.
Green Bay shot out of the gate tonight scoring 3 touchdowns in the first half to lead 21-10. Two of these touchdowns came from strong offensive plays and the third came from gritty overall defensive effort. The Packers defensive line was able to establish some intense pressure on the Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. This forced Big Ben to throw short of his target allowing Jarrett Bush to step in for the interception and run it in for a touchdown.
.
The worst play of the day would have to be placed on the poor execution of the half time performance. It was hard to understand what the headliners, the Black Eye Peas, were going for while they played some of their hits. Slash and Usher made brief appearances to thankfully take our eyes off of the Peas.
.
This Super Bowl half time show, which is usually very watchable, will no doubt go down in history as one of the worst. During the last two quarters, blogs all over the internet were commenting on the disappointing show.
.
Coming into the second half the Steelers showed their class and Super Bowl poise exchanging scores making it 28-25 late in the game. At this point in the fourth a quarter it looked like history was in the making.  It appeared the Steelers’ were on the verge of making another miraculous come from behind performance to win the Super Bowl like they did two years ago. At the same time they were looking to be the first team ever in Super Bowl history to win after being down by more than 10 points.
.
Unfortunately for Steelers fans this story line was just not meant to be.  When the Steelers came to be within 3, the Packers needed a big offensive play. At this time the brilliant collaboration between Rodgers and receiver Greg Jennings led to a field goal.
.
The pressure was now on Big Ben and Steelers offense to score a touchdown for the win with barely 2 minutes left. The Packers got the big stop they needed getting the ball back with a minute left and only needed a simple knee to the ground, after the snap for the win. This is the first Super Bowl championship for both Coach Mike McCarthy and QB Rodgers and the fourth title win for the legendary Packers.
