Habs Beat Bruins 4-2 – Sens come back and bite Rangers 5-4 – NHL Scores – October 29, 2011

CFN –  Lars Eller is getting a huge opportunity with Montreal during the Scott Gomez injury.  In tonight’s game at the Bell Centre against he Boston Bruins he was productive scoring a goal, but also coughed up the puck in his own end that resulted in a Bruin goal.   Brian Gionta and a very quietly productive David Desharnais notched goals for Montreal as well. Tomas Plekanec scored an empty net goal.   The Bruins are now last place in the Eastern Conference.

It’s funny how salary impacts today’s NHL.   Scott Gomez gets vilified because of his lack of production vs his salary while Mr. Eller gets a lot of benefit of the doubt because he plays for a very cap friendly hit of less than $1 million dollars.

With Gomez coming back from injury soon it should be interesting to see how Jacques Martin gets him back into the game as the team has been winning without him.

In tonight’s game Montreal kept shooting the puck and testing Tukka Rask with some good results in spite of the Bruins goalie standing on his head.    Erik Cole had another impressive game as he used his size and speed, especially on the 5 on 5 to draw a penalty and stress the Boston D.    Speaking of drawing penalties; PK Subban drew a couple.  Since being teamed up with Josh Gorges his game has settled quite a bit.

The defensive corps still has issues getting the puck out of their own zone, but again with Markov and Campoli injured it’s a test for young D men like Diaz and Weber who have been holding their own quite well.   Speaking of defense, kudos to Hal Gill and Jaroslav Spacek for playing great roles in stabilizing the Montreal back end and breaking up most of the Bruins pressure.

Travis Moen manned up and went to the dance with heavyweight Shawn Thornton.

In other NHL scores; Ottawa keeps playing fire wagon hockey as they came back to move over 500 beating the NY Rangers 5-4 with Jason Spezza getting two goals.   The Leafs kept winning in spite of James Reimer being injured as they beat  Pittsburgh  4-3 with Jonas Gustafsson picking up the win in net.  Kessel, Grabovski, Macarthur, and Connolly scored for the Leafs.  Dave Steckel was 13-5 in the face off circle.

Tampa nudged Winnipeg 1-0;  Philly stomped Carolina 5-1; and Florida edged Buffalo 3-2.   More scores as they become final to come.
